From a recent PPP poll, a question they asked Republicans:

Now wait, gun control advocates oftentimes argue that guns are inherently dangerous. The popular rebuttal from gun rights advocates (who, I'll admit, I'm mashing in with Republicans in this thread) is that guns aren't dangerous, the people who use them are dangerous. Guns don't kill people. People do.

But video games -- hey now, hold the phone. Video games are such a huge threat to safety. Guns aren't -- because you can't blame guns for the demented people that use them. But video games?

Forget the fact that there's absolutely no link between video games and violence. None. And study after study after study shows that when guns are more prevalent/available, the odds of homicide and violence typically shoot up.

This is why folks Jindal are calling the GOP "the stupid party," and begging their supporters to abandon the willful ignorance that a game of Halo is more dangerous than a handgun.

Two questions:

1. Which do you think is the bigger threat to safety: video games or guns.

2. What sense can you make of the particular piece of PPP polling I've quoted above?

I am pretty sure you are grasping at straws in your attempt to belittle anything that is said by the GOP and therefore you are deaf.

Think about it....a video game's controller in the shoot em up games that are available is like a gun to be used like a gun, shaped like a gun. The game entices to shoot, shoot, shoot, kill, kill, shoot, shoot without much thought about what they are actually be "taught" to do. I don't know if it makes hand guns less dangerous than a game but one feeds the others in some respect.

The problem with that little piece of intuition is that (a.) it conveniently sidesteps both questions in the OP, and (b.) it is not reflected in any significant way in any study there's been on the matter, ever.

I think video games in just one ingredient of the ****ed up cocktail we all serve our kids everyday...along with the lack of accountability, crappy parenting, pathetic morals and a truckload of poor examples of how we should behave. At the very least, I believe it trivializes warfare and killing.

Guns are zero threat to safety, and never have been. No gun has ever threatened a single person just sitting there on a table or exhibit booth. Since the gun has zero danger, it cannot by definition be more dangerous than anything you compare it to.


Therefore this poll makes perfect sense. You can't have a number less than zero.

For the record I don't really see what's so wrong about it. What's more dangerous for our society- the existence of guns, or the fact that kids play so many video games?
I thought we had an "obesity epidemic" in our country? Isn't that what people like you, yourself, have often claimed Direckshun? Wouldn't copious amounts of time spent playing video games contribute to this, 'epidemic'?

What the results of the study really show is that Direckshun will have a spaz attack when he reads some lame story and sprint over to his computer to post it.

I think it's more of a case that instead of disciplining kids; getting their asses outside; getting a few ass kicking by other kids; competing in sport/activities; being prescribed every pill imaginable that haven't been evaluated by the FDA; pussification of kids; pussification of parents...

my newphew has been begging for Call of Duty for 3 years now, and he doesn't have it. You know why? because my brother and his wife think he's too young to comprehend it and understand what's gonig on. And guess what......he's turning out just fine and the world hasn't ended yet.
