Favorite Sitcom of all time?

Some buddies and I were talking at work the other day about what the best sitcoms of all time were....we are all three from different generations, so there were quite a variety of names thrown out there. I'd like to get a broader opinion, and this site gets the most traffic out of any I visit.

So, lets hear your opinions. If the thread is well received and gets quite a few nominees, I'll try and create a poll later on of the top ten, so that we can narrow it down to one.

I'll start by mentioning Seinfeld and The Simpsons.

Seinfeld, I think got off to a slow start the first season or so, but really picked up and had a good run. Very nice finale too with lots of returning characters.

The Simpsons has really fell off the last decade or so, but in its first decade, it was really wonderful.

If you're talking about the greatest Seinfeld episodes ever, it begins and ends with The Contest.

The Contest is Great, but The Gum is just so jam packed with disparate elements that come together so perfectly. It's like whether a Super Bowl with a signature play is the greatest SB ever, or one that see-saws back and forth throughout. The Contest THOROUGHLY mines a great bit, but it's one bit.

BTW - as The Library Police might be the best scene, 'I'm Out' might be the best phrase ever uttered on TV, ever.

But The Gum is still the best episode.

BTW - the 'Marine Biologist' scene is CLOSE second. Just on writing alone

You make an impressive case. Makes me realize that I've spent a lot of time enjoying Matt and Trey's work in the moment without thinking about it in the big picture much. But between South Park, SP BLU and Book of Mormon, they deserve to be placed in the hall of all time titans. All with 'potty humor' that is more incisive and insightful than most all other media.

It made me feel old when I realized South Park started 16 years ago in 1997. And yet, their material keeps getting better. Haven't jumped the shark at all.
