Satanists in Florida are celebrating Governor Rick Scott’s support for a bill that would allow Satanic children to openly pray in public schools.

Florida fans of the Prince of Darkness plan to rally in support Scott’s recent approval of Senate Bill 98 authorizing “a district school board to adopt a policy that allows an inspirational message to be delivered by students at a student assembly.” The bill allows students to read "inspirational messages" at assemblies and sports events. Satanists say the bill will permit alternative religious views, allowing Satanic children to lead prayers in Florida public schools.

In a show of solidarity for Governor Rick Scott, Satanists from all over Florida are scheduled to gather on the steps of the Governor’s Office on Friday, Jan. 25. The following is an excerpt from a press release from The Satanic Temple of Florida announcing the rally:

"The Satanic Temple embraces the free expression of religion, and Satanists are happy to show their support of Rick Scott who -- particularly with SB 98 -- has reaffirmed our American freedom to practice our faith openly, allowing our Satanic children the freedom to pray in school."

No doubt Governor Scott and other Christian supporters of the ill conceived bill are horrified at the thought of Satanists, or any other student members of a non-Christian religious group, leading prayers in public school.

Apparently they forgot that this nation has many religions. More importantly, apparently they forgot that the U.S. Constitution guarantees a wall of separation between church and state, and that prayers belong in church, not a public school.

Under Florida's Senate Bill 98 Muslims, Buddhists, Satanists, Wiccans and even Pastafarians, those most honorable devotees of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, will be able to spread the “good news” of their favorite religious superstition in Florida public schools.

Good for the Satanists. I wish them well.

Of course it should be noted that anyone can pray pretty much any time they want to in a public school. As long as a teacher isn't leading it or it is interfering with normal school functions and activities, a kid can praise the lord, or devil, to him or herself all day long.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A group of self-proclaimed "Satanists" has praised Gov. Rick Scott for signing a bill into law that lets school boards permit student-initiated prayer and other "inspirational messages."

The devil, though, was in the details at a rally Friday in front of Florida's Old Capitol.

A high priest wearing goat horns and four "minions" dressed in black robes were joined by a spokesman and camera crew.

The spokesman, Lucian Greaves of Cambridge, Mass., earlier this month was listed as the casting director on the Actors Access website in an ad seeking unpaid, non-union actors in Tallahassee for a "mockumentary" titled "The Satanic Temple."

Greaves, though, insisted that it's not all a hoax as a smile creased his face.

A spokeswoman for Scott did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
