Is the battle for gay rights a civil rights battle?

From Obama's inaugural speech.

"We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths — that all of us are created equal — is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall ... Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law — for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well."

Today Obama placed an original place for the battle for gay civil rights, Stonewall along side the same original battleground's for women's rights(Seneca Falls) and African-American rights(Selma).

So the poll question is............

Is the battle for gay rights a civil rights battle?

I had a kid on my baseball team that I coached that had 2 Mom's. The kids and parents accepted the kid with no problems. He was invited to sleepovers at their houses and his teammates came over to the 2 Mom's house. It was just as normal as it could possibly be. It was no big deal to the kids.

You're joking, right? Name one law he's even hinted at changing that benefits gays. He says he has evolved, but hasn't acted on anything and likely won't. The gay community are saps for believing he gives a damn.

is this issue mainly about marriage and employer benefits? both of those have been easily handled in Hawaii.
i see same sex couples all over the place, and none of them are getting beaten by cops or mauled by police dogs.

Thats awesome. But thats not a school full of kids. Those are his or her team mates & all were probably educated by their parents not to flip shit about his two mothers.

sorry pal, they all went to the same elementary school. He was also active on the soccer team. No one gave him shit at school.

Um, well...I've seen 100s of your posts here on CP. He didn't raise you that well. Not that I'm blaming him. I have know idea. I know 2 people that were raised by females. One is from here
The other was back when I was a kid. Things were rough for the one I went to school with. I think Nebraska started asking question about his living arrangement's & they got scared & moved. Thats just a guess as to why they moved though.
