A core part of how we conduct our democracy. In this case, there is no transfer of power so maybe it doesn't have the panche but its still I think the most pomp and circumstance that we allow our self's to have in our democracy.

Now the senate majority leader leaving town just to leave town and not be there???? All of the leaders were there including Bohner and Cantor. But thats just the world we live in now.

As far as private donations funding the thing... Just think of the actual GOOD that could be accomplished if those same dollars were spent on something the country NEEDS. It's just an illustration of how clueless the citizens of this doomed nation have become. (And yes, Bob Dole would be saying the same thing if it were not a D taking the oath.)

How about if even 10% of the people who are there to worship their Savior in Chief donated the dollars they spent on travel and lodging to a local food bank or shelter?

I'm just saying there is a shitload of money spent that there is no need to spend. $4 billion in corporate welfare to the oil companies? They are making $30-40 billion in profits every year.

I'm all for getting deadbeats off the government dime. I've always been for placing limits on how long and how much someone can be on the government dole.

But despite all the money that could be saved in cutting waste in the DOD and social programs they pale in comparison in what needs to happen in medicaid and medicare. Thats what is going to kill us in the long term.

People in this country just spent over a billions of dollar in this past election maybe they should have gave that money to local food banks or shelters instead.

That, and private benefits for causes Bob Dole supports, are exactly where Bob Dole's money goes. Just dropped $535 at a benefit last Sunday to help a local lady get the missing chunk of her skull re-installed (since Medicaid doesn't deem it necessary).

You won't see Bob Dole contributing a dime to a political campaign.
