The whole country? I think not. Power corrupts, but in other countries there's less social pressure to behave ethically.

I don't think I could ever live in a middle eastern country just because of the shopping. Everything you buy is priced three times too high and you have to offer one-ninth of that and then you both waste time haggling toward a result in the middle that you both know going in. Until they fix that part of the culture, everything they do is going to be less efficient than it is in America or other civilized countries.

My wife figured out how to handle that in Turkey. The merchant would say, "50," and she'd say, "20." He'd say "40," and she'd say, "15" and start walking. It was a very effective technique.

Still, I doubt that she could figure out how to get an honest deal in Adams County.

America is utterly corrupt, but only at the highest levels. HSBC says hi.

Corruption in places like China and India is easier to see because it happens at all levels of government and business.

Nah, the way most people decide which movie to see is to first research the actors' political beliefs and then choose accordingly.
