My first sentence is more of a pro-gun-control view. However, considering public polling shows that a majority of Americans believe some type of stricter laws and/or enforcement of existing laws is needed, most Americans would see Obama turning a blind eye as not caring about the public good. So sure, omit my first sentence which addresses the pov of a majority of America which includes a large section of gun owners.
