Media Quiet About San Antonio Theater Shooting

On Sunday December 17, 2012, 2 days after the CT shooting, a man went to a restaurant in San Antonio to kill his X-girlfriend. After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming. It’s like the Aurora, CO theater story plus a restaurant!

Now aren’t you wondering why this isn’t a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting?

There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. SHE pulled out her gun and shot the man 4 times before he had a chance to kill anyone. So since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened.

Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week. Just thought you’d like to know.

I tend to agree here. The media whores are more about the the bottom line and tragedy sells far better. This doesn't mean I think that there isn't strong anti-gun media bias.. I just don't think it has much to do with why these types of things go severely under-reported.

In the Clackamas shooting, the only person who thinks that the armed civilian contributed t the shooter killing himself appears to be the armed civilian. It wasn't immediate; the gunman ran down a service corridor, targeted someone else but resisted, and killed himself instead. Who knows whether he even saw the armed civilian, and the gunman definitely had him outgunned, since he was using . . . well, there's the AR-15 again.

This thread has a lot of people on both sides throwing up various accounts of mass and spree shootings, and which was stopped by whom. At some point, I should compile a list and get some statistics. When I do, I'll post a thread about it so you guys can all make sure I include all of the relevant events. This might happen tomorrow, depending on how much bison grass vodka I enjoy tonight.

I'd consider my working CCW .45 to be out gunning his jammed .223.

If you have the drop on someone, you have them out gunned.

It's a long debate. The .223 rifle has more power, but may over penetrate at close range. The .45 has more ooomph and expansion. Hollow point vs yada yada yada.

Most circumstances give me the .223. Going through my house (close quarters) I'd like my .45 for acquiring my target faster.

I created a thread about this in the main forum the day it happened. It never gained much traction at the time. Dec. 17th. and yes, it did make alot of national news outlets like Drudge for a day or two.

^Yup.
Anything over 50 yards I'll take the AR every time, anything under I'll stick with my Colt .45. It puts one hell of a lot more shock on the target at close ranges. There's a reason our government reissued M1911's to our soldiers in Iraq and its not so they could clear appartment buildings going door to door outgunned.

Brainiac, I'm not sure what it is you're trying to get across. Perhaps I'm reading your OP wrong, but I read about the incident the day it happened. And saw it reported on the NBC evening news. They used the local NBC affilliate to report on it.

I don't normally watch the over the air national broadcasts but I was kind of glued to national broadcasts on the following weekdays after the CT shooting to see what the investigation turned up. And I remember watching this feature.

And while searching I noticed that all the major news networks reported on it, including the major cable stations. So, it was reported on by all major news outlets.

This is where you show your lack of critical thinking. Mass shootings aren't stopped by somebody firing back at the shooter, they are prevented. You can't just analyze mass shootings, because if someone stops the shooter fast enough, it will never be considered a "mass shooting". You have to analyze all shootings. Additionally, more than 90% of mass shootings occur in gun-free zones where there is no one to fire back at the shooter.

This is where this 'study' is flawed. Look at the Portland Mall Shooting for example:

In these cases, even being CONFRONTED causes these guys to kil themselves. They would rather have the control and kill themselves rather than fight back against armed resistance or take the chance of humiliation by being taken into custody. This is why they CHOOSE to do these rampages in weapon free zones.

Check out the Aurora Theater Batman shooting....The guy drove an extra distance to go to one of the only theaters where concealed weapons were prohibited. He couldv'e cone to something like 7 other theaters but CHOSE to go to the one place he knew there would be no one like San Antonio to stop him.

There is a webpage that shows damage results in ballistic gel for just about every caliber.

The .223/5.56 just shreds what it hits. It is considered by some a more damaging round than an 7.62x39.
