Media Quiet About San Antonio Theater Shooting

On Sunday December 17, 2012, 2 days after the CT shooting, a man went to a restaurant in San Antonio to kill his X-girlfriend. After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming. It’s like the Aurora, CO theater story plus a restaurant!

Now aren’t you wondering why this isn’t a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting?

There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. SHE pulled out her gun and shot the man 4 times before he had a chance to kill anyone. So since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened.

Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week. Just thought you’d like to know.

Now the agent was shot by police, but my point remains, friendly fire happens. I assume you guys have now problem charging a ccw with manslaughter when they hit a bystander, yes?

In any situation where a police officer can be charged, of course you could charge anyone else who "stands in" in an emergency. Otherwise I'd leave it to civil proceedings.

I agree, which is why I said MODERN military training. BUT even then it isn't a 1 to 1 situation where it translates over perfectly. I would still require some "fill in the gaps" training. I see it as a small price to pay to get rid of the bullshit gun free zones.

Does that perhaps suggest that loopholes such as this need to be addressed? Well, on the one hand is was addressed, it was an illegal sale and hopefully the stupid bitch fries. Let it be an example of the power of being able to track gun purchases, let's do that more!

Protecting yourself and others is not having "authority".

And yes, if you are reckless, you should be accountable. You can't/shouldn't just spray and pray.

It's no different than helping at the scene of a crash. Do what you can to sustain life (CPR). Don't do what you're not qualified to do (tracheotomy).

I have no issue with training to carry a firearm to be much more intensive than it is. It should include simulation of situations where gun fire is exchanged where innocent people are involved. I would be all for well trained citizens carrying guns and enough training that is Pass or Fail. I would like to have instructors with the ability to fail someone who simply is not cut out to carry a gun. Rather it is the cowboy mentality or someone who fails to perform at a competent level~

Well, a "well regulated militia" ( militia meant the whole body of the people back in that day) included being trained.

It has NOTHING to do with authority and very little to do with accountability. Your post was about criminal liability. In the end the issue should be decided on a case by case basis by a grand jury... just like it is for police officers who accidentally shoot the wrong person.

I guess you could say so. I am not interested in wannabe badasses taking a quick course and dreaming about their big shoot out. I however not interested in any new restrictions on law abiding citizens who own guns. To hold those who carry one to a high standard is fine with me~
