(CNN) – Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, said "for all the noise and anger directed at us ... nobody has addressed the most important, pressing and immediate question we face: How do we protect our children right now ... in a way that we know works."

At a press event in Washington, LaPierre said U.S. society has left children "utterly defenseless."

A protester interrupted the NRA appearance before reporters with a banner accusing the NRA of killing children. The protester was led out of the room as he shouted anti-NRA slogans.

LaPierre added that violent crime is increasing in the U.S. due to a lack of willing to prosecute such acts.

The media saturates society with coverage of these events for weeks. While this just mostly drives the liberal fear culture, there's going to be handful of angry young lunatics who watch and think, "I'll do that, and then all these ****ers who ignore me will talk about me forever!"

Do I exclusively blame the media? Of course not. I pretty much blame the guy who pulls the trigger. But there are always contributing factors.

• A 1997 high school shooting in Pearl, Miss., was halted by the school's vice principal after he retrieved the Colt .45 he kept in his truck.
• A 1998 middle school shooting ended when a man living next door heard gunfire and apprehended the shooter with his shotgun.
• A 2002 terrorist attack at an Israeli school was quickly stopped by an armed teacher and a school guard.
• A 2002 law school shooting in Grundy, Va., came to an abrupt conclusion when students carrying firearms confronted the shooter.
• A 2007 mall shooting in Ogden, Utah, ended when an armed off-duty police officer intervened.
• A 2009 workplace shooting in Houston, Texas, was halted by two coworkers who carried concealed handguns.
• A 2012 church shooting in Aurora, Colo., was stopped by a member of the congregation carrying a gun.
• At the recent mall shooting in Portland, Ore., the gunman took his own life minutes after being confronted by a shopper carrying a concealed weapon.

so, off topic...but my wife watches this show Property Brothers etc; and I swear to go, most of the parents have WAY too many concerns about the safety of their child. Last night, they didn't like the center island in a kitchen because of 'saftey'. they didn't like the brick on the floor in front of the fireplace, concerned about safety and worried he might fall and give himself an owie wtf.

my dad remodeled our house and added additions to it with his own hands and slave labor with me and my brothers. I rembmer I was literally lik 5 years old and I kept climing up the ladder to the roof when he was re-shingling it. after like the 4 time, he said "F - it" and gave me a hammer and I starded driving in nails. my mom freaked out and my dad basically told her to shove it "If he's gettin' up here, then he's going to work".

safety shit...my first bike had no brakes. i would stop it with my shoe on the back tire.

And here's another dirty little truth that the media try their best to conceal: There exists in this country a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people.

Through vicious, violent video games with names like Bulletstorm, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and Splatterhouse. And here's one: it's called Kindergarten Killers. It's been online for 10 years. How come my research department could find it and all of yours either couldn't or didn't want anyone to know you had found it?

Then there's the blood-soaked slasher films like "American Psycho" and "Natural Born Killers" that are aired like propaganda loops on "Splatterdays" and every day, and a thousand music videos that portray life as a joke and murder as a way of life. And then they have the nerve to call it "entertainment."

But is that what it really is? Isn't fantasizing about killing people as a way to get your kicks really the filthiest form of pornography?

NRA wants to create a national database of people with mental illness, yet apparently wants to do nothing to change the fact that 40% of gun purchases currently require no background check. How will this database be utilized with this loophole? NRA gives no answers.

The armed guards at schools idea is good, but as part of a comprehensive strategy that has to include increased gun regulations.

If you don't regulate the type of guns and military style body armor anyone with a credit card can get, then there is a good chance armed guards will be overpowered by heavily armed shooters.

See the 1997 North Hollywood Shootout when police and armed guards on the scene were overpowered by two gunmen with more powerful guns and body armor (this was at a bank, and not a school, but shows the problem with just adding armed guards and doing nothing to address the easy access to military style weapons and body armor).

Yeah, this particular section was not a good idea. It comes off sounding like Grandpa Simpson, and distracts from the main, valid point they do have. What is the point of blaming the media?

We're not going to stop demanding shooter games and violent movies, and blasting the entity which you will have to depend on to fairly report your message doesn't sound like a good idea at all. Their response will probably be to quickly gloss over the armed guard proposal, focus in laser-like on how its not the media's fault, laugh it off, then move on.
