The VA disability backlog has absolutely dick to do with "government healthcare" or inefficiency and everything to do with this. More claimants in a fixed system leads to longer delays in adjudicating cases.

If the system is back logged why can two individuals go in with similar disability claims for benefits and one get's served considerably sooner than the other?

I would set the basis of service on personalities, the personality of the person filling out the paperwork and processing it with another person being lesser than the first processor. I estimate the system is antiquated and the people, being government employees, are less motivated to attempt to take the extra steps to ensure all are treated or given benefits in a timely manner.

The answer is that different offices vary wildly in efficiency, competence, caseloads, and/or staffing.

That is what I pointed out in my second paragraph. But in larger population areas the staffing is greater than in the smaller branch offices.

Welcome to the way of the world. Health (and indemnity, etc.) insurers pick "winners and losers" by paying or denying benefits. Schools pick "winners and losers" in assigning grades. Stock markets pick "winners and losers" via share price. And yes, governments do it too. Disability is subjective..... someone has to make that decision.

There is an inherent difference between deciding to participate in your examples and being legally obligated and forced to use government run healthcare.

Insurance is something that you pay for and has a contract attached to it. Either it fallls under contract or it doesn't. If you as a citizen feel that insurance will not help, you do not have to use it. It was not mandated by the Government.

Grades are earned.

The stockmarket is something citizens are not legally obligated to buy.
