Considering the southern strategy and the ideological shift of the political parties, it's hard to compare Democrats of old to Democrats of new.

History is history, man. As far as ideological "shifts" go, it's not like they traded ideologies. Democrats have always been in favor of using certain classes to do the heavy lifting for the rest of society.

I wouldn't dare disparage the American Canine Association.

I would suggest you look at the voting records between northern and southern Representatives of both parties. It was split between north and south, not repub. or dem.

I would also suggest these types of statements unless you are ready to compare the republican party of 60 years ago to today.

Hi. My name is Dwight Eisenhower. I was a 5-star general in the US Army, Supreme Commander of the US' Europe campaign in WWII and the first Supreme Commander of NATO. I also served as President of these United States for 8 years (as a Republican) and delivered two of the most stinging rebukes of the modern Republican Party ever issued from a President (I'm so awesome, I delivered these rebukes 40 years before anyone knew they needed to be delivered.):

1. That the military-industrial complex, which only serves to feed itself with public money, must be restrained. Sure, they do good things like cell technology/GPS and the internet, but also things like the Iraq War, billion-dollar "research" projects that do nothing but make Erik Prince richer, and cost-plus contracts that do even less than that.

2. "Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

2 things:

1) Yeah, obamacare is exactly like slavery. Great argument lol.

2) You're going to pay for the uninsured to have healthcare regardless of how it's done. You don't think you were paying for people's healthcare in 2007?

That's not an argument. Paying for others in any way should not be done period.

It is an argument because that is exactly how the American medical system works. If you don't have insurance, and you go to the ER, you will get treatment.

Or I guess you could have doctors say "I'm sorry you don't have insurance, but I cannot treat you for your (potentially life-threatening) injuries." But there's about a 0% chance of that happening.

That's a seriously ridiculous statement. Especially considering the 2 groups you tie with the democratic party are southern farmers and wealthy northern businessmen. Who do you think those people support now?

From what I've heard, dead people mostly like to vote for Democrats. But that's just anecdotal. I'm not sure what the stats say about that constituency.

No one was turned away before govt got involved. There were charity hospitals. Talk to a doctor who worked during that time.
