Under the table jobs

Hairdressers, photographers, carpenters... Do small businesses that frequently do cash jobs have any negative economic impact or should they be allowed to perform a service for someone without passing some of it forward?

It's against the law. If people are willing to evade taxes, it's their call to take that risk.

If everyone paid all the taxes they legally should the surplus would be so high we really could cut taxes.

It's hard to get worked up over that, when mega corporations can "Legally" skirt tax laws to the point where they pay little to nothing while profiting billions upon billions. The impact of that is so much greater that something like this seems silly.

Having some people avoid taxes means that other people eventually pay more. If we're going to have taxes, everyone should pay them fairly and tax laws should be enforced.

Oh, and "quarterback of the Broncos" is also a job that is typically paid under the table.

I got an under the table job once. It was even more fun than normal because of the danger of being caught.

Barter systems are growing also. These seem like tax evasion also but appear to be legal.

You're comparing legal tax planning with illegal tax evasion and finding the former more offensive?

Obamacare’s fix for an American health care system that the federal government long ago broke, is to give the federal government far more power over American health care; that its solution to escalating health costs is to mandate greater health benefits (and, hence, higher costs); and that its solution to the pricey overreliance on pre-paid health plans — offered by insurance companies in lieu of real insurance — is to have the government require Americans to buy those pre-paid health plans under penalty of law.

That's how many are surviving in Greece. Black markets grow under socialisms. That's how Iron Curtain countries survived. It's survival instinct—the last way to survive. It's the market having the last say.

The issue is confined to republicans. Democrats like paying taxes so they have no incentive to work the underground economy.

Goes without saying. This is how the less wealthy R's can do their part in not building roads and bridges.

OK, I guess I can understand it if you're blaming the system. At first, I thought you were blaming the corporations.

I despise corporations for many reasons. But regarding taxes, they're only doing what they're legally able to do. My frustration is that they're legally allowed to do it. The entire tax system is busted, and worrying about Joe Carpenter getting paid $50 under the table for a day's wage is way down the list for me.
