I love statistics but you always have to walk the line of not overthinking things too. In basketball especially there's definitely an intangible element to having a guy like Jordan, Bird, Reggie Miller who could crank it up a notch and terrorize you in the 4th quarter. One guy can take over a game. Doesn't work that way in football and baseball.

You forgot to include LeBron in that list, I think. He's terrorized more than a few teams in the 4th quarters of games.

He'll get there. He's had some great games but I would not put him with Jordan and Bird until he pads out his resume with a couple more titles. People forget some of the insane things those other guys did. If I needed one shot to win a game I'd pick Jordan or Bird every time. You could fill a 30 minute YouTube highlight video with all the insane stuff they did that no one does today. Magic too but he wasn't the shooter the other guys were.

Honestly, when Gay was hurt the year before last Memphis was about the same. Gay is a pretty good player, but he's not a max guy at all.

Exactly. This is a combination of a new owner and bringing Hollinger into the fold. The mediocre return speaks to the fact that many teams out there realized what Gay is. He's a nice player, but he looks much better than his output. Marginal defensive guy despite so many physical tools, 40% shooter (around 17 shots/game), and making max money. He and DeRozan aren't much different frankly, and both will now man the wing in Toronto making entirely too much for what they bring to the table. Memphis gained flexibility, a really nice 23 year old big and a solid vet small forward.

I'm not thrilled as a Grizz fan, but the disappointment comes from not getting back as much as I'd hoped.

Marginal defender is probably being nice. I know when you guys still had Battier I was wishing Gay was back in the playoff series lol
