The clear difference is that there is a great deal of observable evidence for one, and a great lack of observable evidence for the other. You're more than welcome to lean on your faith for your personal beliefs. But the public education system has a responsibility to not teach beliefs for which there is no evidence for. Whether you want to admit it or not, there's a mountain of evidence for evolution. Which is why it's taught in school. If there were actually observable evidence for creationism, then it would of course find it's way into education curriculum. It hasn't, and it won't. It's bunk, which is why it has never made it further than the crazy domain of people like Kent Hovind.

Yeah, and several of the Ivy Schools still have Divinity or Seminary schools attached. But if you really want the first institutions of higher learning, you have to go back several centuries more, to the middle ages, with colleges like Oxford, Cambridge, University of Paris, and the University of of Padua. And you can guess how religiously affiliated those schools were.

Just symbols. Symbols taken from older outdated times. Not entirely different than the way Christianity borrowed a huge amount of their symbology from Pagan beliefs that came before. Even down to the traditional Christian cross.

Also, you mention the Harvard logo. Harvard's official emblem simply says "Veritas", which means "Truth". I believe what you might be thinking of here is the fact that at the time of their initial founding, their emblem said "Veritas Christo et Ecclesiae", which means "Truth for Christ andthe Church". But the ironic thing is that they have since dropped the "Cristo et Ecclesiae" part. Essentially distancing themselves from the church, and relying on the simple meaning of "Truth" instead.

Also telling is the fact that there are entire departments at Harvard devoted to the study of Evolutionary Biology.

Guess how many departments are dedicated to Creationism?

Well, what do you think the purpose of stevieray's post was? I took it as a statement that religion and education aren't inherently opposed, and perhaps when combined, lead to preeminent centers of enlightenment and understanding.

I took it to be pointing out that Harvard was founded on religion. Which it was. It was created to be a school for Christian ministers. But stevieray is the master at mysterious one sentence befuddlement, so it's very likely I didn't interpret his meaning correctly.

Either way, Harvard is no longer a school for Christian ministers, and has obviously distanced itself considerably from church influence in the majority of its matters.
