Schefter: Chiefs are high on Ricky Stanzi

He said it on the new ESPN Insiders show with Mort, Clayton, and Schefter. Said that Stanzi has caught the eye of the Chiefs and that he could be ahead of Brady Quinn on the depth chart.

BossChief has a better summary....

Ricky Stanzi hasn't made any mistakes as far as interceptions. He's calm and has caught the eye of the people in the Chiefs organization.

Look, it's Matt Cassels job. Everybody knows that right now. MUCH TO THE UNHAPPYNESS OF MANY FANS IN THE AREA. Ricky Stanzi is a quarterback to watch there in Kansas City in the near future...despite the fact that they brought in Brady Quinn this offseason to backup Matt Cassel."

Game 6, bitches.

I would pass on a 1st rnd QB next year if Stanzi plays with consistency and has a winning regular season record. Like you, I've been impressed with Stanzi's collegiate play. He's not a real gifted arm, but he's got everything else imo, including the "it" factor. His last season at Iowa was what convinced me, there were times he drove the ball pretty well.

I still think he needs another full season before counting on him as a starter because blitzing & pass coverage is much more sophisticated in the NFL, but I bet he knows the fanbase has been bashing the hell out of Cassel/***** and it could be he worked extra hard to get ready. That would be awesome. But, I still don't assume Stanzi will play this season. Much as it pains me to say it, I expect Cassel will do enough to keep the job this season. I think next year the position will be up for grabs and Stanzi will take over.

if that happens the chiefs will just trade for Colt McCoy who is not any better than any of our guys and we still are in the same position.

or

maybe they pick up Tavaris Jackson when he gets cut and we go 8-8 forever

Cassel is the QB.

Wasn't there some talk early in the off season that the Chiefs were down on Stanzi and his roster spot was in jeopardy?

How would anyone come to the conclusion that Stanzi sucks? He had very little preseason action last year, and looked very good then.

What? Where does this come from?

The only thing I read earlier was that he was looking better than Quinn. His timing was better than Cassel.

If this team ever drafted a QB #1 again, he would be a failure in the fans eyes before he ever got a chance.

I read the OP title, and thought at first that multiple Chiefs players were caught smoking some crazy new marijuana.

In all fairness, the fans have been smoking some Ricky Stanzi for awhile now.

Why the hostility? You know if that happens then we have to sign someone that is going to be cut or is too expensive for another club. Would you rather they be replaced by Matt Leinart, Derek Anderson and someone who was in the arena league?
