The basic premise to this is wrong. Ron Paul is NOT taking a significant amount of voters AWAY from the Republican base... he is instead ADDING his voters to the party. It's the young kids who would otherwise be liberals(or Green party or Anarchists or some other group) that he has been able to make serious headway among. They are anti-establishment types that would NOT be voting Republican and possibly would instead turn to the Democrats or to a fringe group. Yes this has some effect on the future of the Republican party... but it could also affect the future of the Democratic party ... the youth of America is becoming more and more fiscally conservative while maintaining extremely liberal social ideas. The smart move is for the Repubs to stop alienating these people and throw them a few bones to get them onboard for life.

I know a great deal of Paulites in both DFW and Austin... I would say that 90% are 22-28 years old and if it wasn't for Ron Paul, they'd be Obama supporters. I don't see ANY of them switching back.

Quite a few are simply anti-war... Obama has blown any and all cred he had on that point.

Not when so many young people have showed up to be delegates to the convention in Tampa. That's a pretty hi-level of involvement and activism right there. Yes, there was a shockingly high number of young voters that showed up at those conventions where delegates get chosen.

yes, but will they vote Romney when called upon to do so in the general election? I don't see ANY of them switching back toward Obama but I also see a huge drop off rate when asked to vote along party lines for Romney. Paul needs to cut some deals and get some REASONABLE compromises into the main party platform and then turn around and get his supporters to help Romney win.

I doubt Paul would ever try to help Romney win. He's Obama lite and supports another war. You think young people would go for another war? I don't. That's the main reason they like Paul because they could be called to fight it. It's the main reason I like Paul. That's my first reason for how I will vote this time.

I see some of them switching to Obama if he continues to sound more moderate on Iran which he has been. Not that I believe Obama because our FP is the same no matter if a D or R is in the white house.
