Used to collect the **** out of football cards. Was obsessed with that shit as a kid. Nothing like opening a fresh pack of cards. But I don't know if I could actually reference a specific set anymore.

Man, I've got a shit ton of cards.
I'm still relatively young, but I always enjoyed early, mid 90s Upper Deck for baseball. |

I was an idiot when I was younger. I have tons of football cards. I have every player you could ever think of from the 90's, and not a single one is worth squat.
I have an awesome collection of Chiefs cards that was really always the reason I even collected. I have at least 50 DTs. Everyone from Lenny the cool, to Larry the ****. |

The sick about all of this is most cards aren't worth a shit. Looks like I will just pass them down.

I gotta go with the 89 UD baseball set as well. It completely changed the game as far as card collecting went. It took it from a child's hobby to a full fledged adult cash cow for a decade and a half. The search for the Griffey Jr. card was intense as some boxes had them and some didn't. I remember it easily getting upwards to a bill for a perfectly centered card. Most went for around $60 as I remember. I traded a signed Andy Benes ball and signed minor league card for a full box of 89 UD. At the time I thought was the loser in the deal. I still don't know who came out ahead. I never pulled a griffey Jr. card out of it and Benes never amounted to anything.
My honorable mentions have to go to the 87 Donruss baseball set, 89 Score football set and 86-87 & 88-89 Fleer basketball sets Last edited by RubberSponge; 04-23-2012 at 03:56 AM.. |

I used to be a very serious baseball card collector. I was a teenager at the time so I didn't really know what I was doing, but I was definitely trying my best, and at least had the good sense to be interested in older cards.
Probably the WORST card (stylistically), I ever had was a '55 Ernie Banks. ![]() My favorite was probably the '56 Topps Ted Williams. I always thought the '56 Topps were pretty sharp. ![]() I used to like collecting fun, weird cards, which included the Hassan T-202 Triple Fold cards. I loved the idea of having an "action shot" in the middle and two players on the ends. The art was very sharp.

2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Basketball. You had to be a gambler at $1000 per pack, but the chance of landing a $15,000+ Lebron RC was worth it to most. There are very few packs of it left and when they surface, they sell for over $3,000 per pack (for 8 cards).

A good friend of mine likes to make investments out of childhood nostalgia. He's got a bunch of boxed Transformers from the 80's, something like $35,000 worth of them. He also has a few unopened packs of the 52 (or 51 can't remember) Topps Baseball that could have a Mickey Mantle in it. Worth a ton unopened.

I believe it was Donruss -- but, I had 3-4 of the same Cal Ripken card when he broke the most played games(?) record. It's the one where he took a lap around Camden.
When they first came out -- they were worth $100 a piece. Now, I think they're like $10 a piece. |
