We have a vote coming up on May 8 it is a vote to put in the Constitution of the state of NC That Marriage is to be between one man and one woman.

I don't care what gay people do in their bedrooms, it's none of my business but on the same token I think only a man and woman should be able to legally marry... I really don't even care if Gay people want civil unions....

I am a Conservative .... and I will be voting FOR the amendment.

Exactly. The problem is the mixing of government policy and religious/cultural policy. If two people want to live together, there should be a religious process that can be called whatever they want, and if that religion wants to set limits they are free to do so. If their own people want to debate it, they can.

Separate from that, you have a government civil union that is used for stuff like taxes and custodial rights and stuff.

If a religion wants to ban gay marriage or May-December marriage or allow man-car marriage or woman-carrot marriage, that's their business. I don't care.

Having said that, I could perhaps see some problems brewing on things where government and religion don't agree, but perhaps the simple rule would be that the government definition rules on any public site and the religious definition rules on any private site owned by that religion. And in someone's home, they get to pick.

Why limit the drinking age to 21? Why not 7? Or 45?

Why make the speed limit in school zones 25mph? Why not 1mph?

Despite my thinking that gay marriage is ok, the thought of two dudes together, is, well, kind of yucky. My solution to that is not to think about it.

Maybe you should try not thinking about two dudes getting it on so much.

That's kinda hard to do, when marriage is a very public thing, and it's being discussed in politics. I mean that's the image that comes up not two guys sharing the laundry chores together. Best to make it a private institution then the gays don't have to ask for approval so much where it's just in the face of others.

There may be freedom in choosing something, say smoking. But there is little comparable freedom in stopping smoking because of the addictive nature of nicotine. Same goes for lots of drugs. And then there is the interaction of drugs. It might be good to have some oversight when our freedoms have been physically skewed.

As far as marriage. . . well it is first a economic arrangement. I think two people involved in some arrangement that would facilitate the introduction and/or support of minors seems ok. When you get into multi marriage sets then the economics may lead to abuse as one may seek rule over many in such arrangements.

I am ok with civil unions as being the declaration by governments for all that choose to be so affiliated. Marriage can be just that religious designation.

Not for me.

I'm fine with making all marriage a private institution, but its only in the face of others because because of the people protesting against it. It is legal in a handful of states, and I'm guessing that it is not in anyone's face. It just is what it is and people go about their business.

Well I was driving one night on one of those long runs flipping around the channels on XM and it was some kind of call in sex show, well I listened for a minute and this dude comes on and he asked the Dr or what ever he was why his boyfriend did not get a boner when he was nailing him in the ass...
