Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot at public event

Giffords shot at meet n greet in front of a tucson safeway. Early reports 12 wounded. 4 confirmed dead, early reports say giffords was shot in the head. 3 of her staff are also wounded. No report from the hospital on giffords.

She's alive and in intensive care. The bullet was through and through and went through the brain. The doctor is optimistic about her recovery. The shooting happened just 10 miles away from my fiancee's Uncle's house. We live in Flagstaff which is a good five hours away from there and having only lived here for over a year I hate it. Arizona is such a lame state. I don't feel like I live in America but in Mexico with the majority of people here being Mexican and/or Native American.

My understanding is since it went through clean, it didn't explode inside her head, which would have been certainly fatal. She's not out of the woods by any means. But she's got a fighting chance.

It's possible, if the bullet didn't scramble the frontal lobe or damage the stem.
I watched a documentary about a kid that got hit in the head from a stray bullet from some gang pulling a drive-by, had to have ~1/3 of his brain removed and he lived through it. Seemed pretty normal too, except for the huge cavaty in his head.

If sarahpac.com wasn't offline today and the "target map" been removed then it wouldn't have been noteworty.

But when you put out targets on politicians to your followers in a militant style graphic/ideology/whatever then you can't just throw up your hands and say "why blame me"?

If there wasn't anything to worry about then why did sarah palin's site remove the map?

I won’t pay debt with a currency that’s not backed by gold and silver! No! I won’t trust in God!”

There are also some biographical details that can be culled from the page. Loughner attended Mountain View High School, Northwest Aztec Middle College, and Pima Community College. He also appears to have been in the armed forces, at one point in time.

“Every United States Military recruit at MEPS in Phoenix is receiving one mini bible before the tests,” he writes in one video. “Jared Loughner is a United States Military recruit at MEPS in Phoenix Therefore, Jared Loughner is receiving one mini bible before the tests."

Oh, so he is just a ****ing nutter? Gold standard and no God? Sure sounds like a Palin-worshipper to me.

I've reading for over a year now to prepare for social unrest. It's arrived.

BEP, this isn't me taking shots at libertarian philosophy. This is me living in tuscon and me being in giffords district. I actually have seen both giffords and her 2010 opponent jesse kelly in local meet n greets.

There are a lot of fringe types who talk libertarian rhetoric but are hardly philosophical purists. In the local repub (kelly) events, these were the maddest types. Combine that with youth and an arizona wild west attitude and you've got a bad formula.

Obviously, there are nutjobs of every stripe. But i have played poker with a number of young guys here who spout mangled libetarian stuff they get from glenn beck. They call themselves libertarian and are really socially obnoxious. (As in wanting to talk politics at a poke game).
