The deputy comes up to the window. I had my drivers license out of my wallet and handed it to him before he said a word along with a smile. I would have had the insurance card and registration as well, but I didn't want to make him edgy by reaching into my glove compartment while he was walking up to the car. It went like this with Buford T. Justice:

Buford: Good afternoon sir, I guess you know why I pulled you over?

Bwana: No I don't officer.

Buford: Are you serious, you really don't know?

Bwana: No, what did I do?

Buford: Well sir, this is a 40 MPH zone and I clocked you doing 59.

Bwana: You're kidding, seriously? A 40 MPH zone? I come out here all the time and I had no idea. Well shoot, I guess that's my bad, I apologize, wow.

Buford: Well, I don't know what to do here.

Bwana: Well officer, from what you're telling me, I was speeding and I apologize for that, if that was the case. I honestly had no idea this was a 40 MPH zone, so once again, I apoligize, from now on I will pay a little closer attention when traveing down this road.

I would really appreciate it if you could let me off with a warning officer. When you call in my ID, you will find that I don't have any kind of record and my driving record is spotless. If I can keep it that way, I would really appreciate it.

Buford: Well let me see what I can do sir. (Buford goes back to car, calls in my information and returns 5 minutes later.)

Buford: Well, you were right, your record is spotless. If I let you off with a warning, I trust I won't have to worry about you speeding down this road again?

Bwana: No you won't officer, in fact, I shouldn't have been here on this road in the first place today. Any self respecting manufactures rep would be out swinging a little fly line today, what is it 75 today?

Buford: I has to be, I'll tell you what, if I wasn't working, that's where I would be. Where do you go?

Bwana: I have been hitting the Stillwater and if you want to slay the big ones, try a yellow Sally right about dust, you'll knock them dead.

Buford: Really? Well thanks a lot!

Bwana: No sir, thank you, now get out of here and do some fishing will ya? *GRIN*

Buford: (laughs) I'll get all over that this weekend with Yellow Sally's.

Bwana: Good for you! Thanks again!

Bottom line: Cops are people to and they deal with a lot of stress and a lot of assholes on adaily basis. I have found that most of the time, you get what you give with cops. If you keep it light and stay relaxed, it will keep them at ease as well. Once that happens, your odds of getting out of a ticket go up considerably.
Its my belief that most officers are like this. Like I already said, its the pigs in the videos that make the good ones look bad.

It's a Montana term. It's the time of day when we bury bodies in a shallow grave at the base of the Beartooth Mountains. As you lay there and I shovel dirt on you, the low lying sun gracefully shines a warm orange hue on the DUST rising from your still warm body.

I have a friend like that. He's like Bad Luck Schleprock behind the wheel of a car - he's gotten in more accidents, received more tickets and just been generally harrassed more than anybody else I know. The funny thing is he's not a crazy driver at all, nor does he fit a profile that one would think cops would key on (white, clean cut, 43-year-old professor). He's just unlucky as hell.

These are the exact kind of encounters I have with a lot of officers as well here. Must be that Montana air. Even when I was in KC I talked with a couple officers outside my hotel bar cuz they were watchin over the club that was next door. Had regular convo. I've always felt safe around officers, but then when I watch video's like this it makes me hope I never ever have to deal with a cop thats hell bent on finding something to cuff me for.

I watched a little of the video, most all police are good people trying to do a good job. BUT, some are pigs just like any other profession.

Um...the skateboarders were met with much more force than was necessary for a minor, non-violent violation of a city ordinance (no skateboards on the sidewalk). That happened in Hot Springs, AR (not AZ) as in the film. Also, they WERE in violation of the law (Bob Dole has seen the signs in person), so the statement on-screen at the end of chapter 1 is incorrect.
