The word "hillbilly"

I'm late to the thread, but I think 'hillbilly' is not offensive because those who don't like the term don't think they are one, and those who like the term view it as self-identified pride.

You can't decide your race or your age or your nationality, but you can decide whether or not you're a hillbilly.

I had two people mention the inbreds as a population of interest in the study, and I had another person tell me that 'if you're going to go to church this weekend [while in town], be sure to ask first if it's a serpent-handling church'.

I've got a conductor friend that worked for a short while in Knoxville, Tennessee. She said there was a Kroger grocery store on the far side of town in which plenty of inbreds could be seen daily.

It was nicknamed "Halloween Kroger".
