John Kerry: Secretary of State?

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...yJQ&refer=home

"Massachusetts Senator John Kerry is lobbying for secretary of State, although Obama has been cautioned that would be received negatively by many Republicans."

What do you think about this? I remember Kerry's "passing the global test" line from the debates. I wonder if Obama subscribes to the same test.

He is refering to the implication that Kerry was a war hero. Did he serve? yes. Am I grateful? Yes. Did he dodge 4 times? Yes. Did he put in for a 3rd PH witha scratch to get out? Yes. Did he come home and call his fellow soldiers war criminals? Yes. Did he admit to committing the same atrocities? Yes.

Because when he volunteered that had not starting using SWIFT boats that way. It was pretty much right after he chose that duty that they changed the tactics and thus sent said SWIFT boats into combat zones.

He thought he was getting a cheese job and it backfired.

"I didn't really want to get involved in the war," Kerry said in a little-noticed contribution to a book of Vietnam reminiscences published in 1986. "When I signed up for the swift boats, they had very little to do with the war. They were engaged in coastal patrolling and that's what I thought I was going to be doing."

But two weeks after he arrived in Vietnam, the swift boat mission changed -- and Kerry went from having one of the safest assignments in the escalating conflict to one of the most dangerous.

So, he didn't "volunteer to serve on a Swift Boat in the river deltas, one of the most dangerous assignments of the war." He volunteered for littoral duty.

Both um, very questionable. Even some of his commanders documented such.

But the 3rd is the magic one. And he couldn't get it fast enough.

I could live with Richardson. Very middle of the roadish, not fully of a lot of the typical rhetoric.

IIRC, the first two were very minor. Just a bandage and no missed duty. The third one made him miss a couple of days. "Walking wounded," as Kerry described them.

Actually, he did volunteer. This statement, separated with a compound appositive phrase does not speak to whether or not Kerry was aware of the danger before he volunteered. It was objectively dangerous, irrespective of Kerry's state of mind toward the assignment.

I'll take that as a "no, I bought everything those swift boat bastards could funnel down my throat as fast as it would go." Thanks.

Translation: Let's pretend that Kerry really knew the military's plans and still volunteered cause then, it will make him look that much more brave.

I mean, he was so ready for a fight he got 4 deferrals. I bet he was so pissed Cheney got 5 he was ready to take the enemy on by himself!
