What? No "Sons of Anarchy" Thread?

I had a late coaches meeting, recording the whole pilot episode on FX later.

Then why the Sandy Hook/Columbine likened imagery? Sutter could've gone several other routes in his writing to kill the club than that. Especially the day before the 9/11 attack

I could give a shit about the school shooting story. What I don't need to see is Otto being raped and then the disgusting shit stains on his drawers afterward. This is what he does to his own character in pursuit of a storyline nobody cares about.

I don't think it is out of bounds. The MC is responsible for alot of damage from their business, and from the get go this show has been about Jax's uneasiness with the gun trade. He seems to have gotten less uneasy as he was forced to stay in business, but Sutter is trying to put a line down that no one can continue to accept. It would be silly to go back to yet another ATF of IRA storyline to destroy or salvage the club (however he chooses to end it) without this kind of story.

He was clearly juxtaposing victim and criminal with the scene transitions from the kid's face to Jax's. Jax has repeatedly excused his decisions, including the one giving those same guns to Nero's guys, by telling himself it was just one deal done for the greater peace, and now he is going to have to become a real bad guy, worse than Clay perhaps, to keep the business going after this.

They even used the porn side business int his episode to illustrate that these guys still consider themselves not so bad, or the lesser of evils, but can they look past this knowledge? I think it sets up a pretty good wrap up to the show and two seasons to do it.

I still like this show alot, but i take it for what it is....Trashy, pulpy fun. Nothing more.

But honestly, im beginnning to hate nearly every character. I hope they all get what they deserve and die a brutal death. I cant think of one character to root for anymore? They are all truly despicable.

I don't want to watch political grandstanding about second amendment rights/ gun control the day before 9/11. Very, very poor writing which ruined the episode for me.
say what you want, but for the club to let one of their guns into the hands of a school kid who did that, is ****ing club suicide. RIght now in the united states, there is no worse crime that can be done inside the U S OF A. After they find out, its EVERYONE coming down hard on the club. Could he have done it another way? sure, but this angle would put the most pressure on the club they could have imagined.

Also, Sutter has nothing to do with when the show airs. thats all up to FX/Fox. When SoA is done filming, FX puts out the schedule, its out of The producers hands.

At first when it happened, i was like, wow, i dont believe he went there, but a few days later, im like, of course he went there, i should have known better. Sutter has been around and seen it all, dudes gotten to hang out with alot of organized criminals for his shows. I know Happy in an interview said, before they started to work on SoA, Sutter was hanging out at the Hells Angeles ClubHouses in Oakland where happy is from.

‘SOA’ Creator Kurt Sutter Reacts To PTC Outrage Over Season Debut

UPDATE, 6:20 PM: Kurt Sutter responded this afternoon to those who have savaged his Sons of Anarchy season debut over its school shooting scene. That includes the Parents Television Council, which used the FX drama’s episode to once again demand that Washington allow consumers to buy networks a la carte. “Obviously there is some blowback today,” Sutter said in a webcast on his WTF web page. “The PTC — I would imagine these are not evil people, but they’re just not very intelligent or intuitive people. … The fact that these people want to be monitoring what my children watch is terrifying. He suggested the PTC’s “simplistic, dangerous view” is “perhaps influenced by certain religious groups and people with other agendas” which, “whenever that stuff crosses the line into censorship, it’s just scary, not just on a creative level but on a personal level”.

He apologized to viewers upset with the episode because they have been personally involved in one of the school shootings and suffer for it every day of their lives. But, he noted, ”that is a very small percentage of us.” “I’m a storyteller. … I haves a god given gift that I can share with you and perhaps entertain you and bring you along for the ride. … So when anybody tries to take that away from me, or impede that, I get defensive.” He insisted the episode was necessary because the show’s hero, “or anti-hero, is a father of young boys of that age, who’s trying to protect them from the dangerous component of his outlaw life, and he deals guns. To suggest that piece of his life could not impede and bleed into the other areas of his life and that he’d be able to keep them separate — to me that’s irresponsible,” Sutter wrote. “These guys turning these guns out on the street, selling them to people, unaware of who’s using them and what they’re being used for — to suggest that those guns could not fall into the hands of people that were going to hurt other people, including children … that’s ignorant … that’s almost more irresponsible.”

He said he hoped the episode has “ripped the ****ing scab off” in this country, forcing people to “have the conversation again” that they always have in the immediate aftermath of one of these school shootings but then don’t follow through on, as the “balm” of time settles over them and they get comfortable and unafraid again. “It’s the Groundhog Day experience,” he said. “For me, the PTC — they’re just ****ing ridiculous.

“So again, a big thank you for the people who are tuning in, and until somebody kicks in my door and tackles me to the ground and cuts off my ****ing hands, I’m going to keep doing what I do. So **** them. And thank you.”

PREVIOUS: This week’s super-awesome — or super-horrifying, depending on your TV critic of choice — series-ratings-record-breaking season debut of FX’s Sons Of Anarchy demonstrated once again that you can’t beat drugs, prostitution, slaughter of children, crooked cops, rock music, and death by urine, when looking to gin up a crowd for an aging biker drama. It’s also a really effective way to drum up support for a-la-carte cable.

“The Parents Television Council is calling on its members to contact Congress to express the urgent need for a consumer cable choice solution in response to the violent and sexually graphic premiere of FX’s Sons Of Anarchy, which featured a young boy committing a school shooting, simulated rape scenes, torture of women, and a man who was drowned in a bathtub of urine,” PTC complained this morning.
“Think about the parents who have been personally affected by real-life school shootings – even they were forced to contribute to FX on their cable bills. This is an outrage, and the time for consumers to have real choice has come,”PTC president Tim Winter said in his organization’s expression of outrage.

He dismissed that old “change the channel” gag as “a lazy excuse from the cable industry’s own talking points that does not address the real problem.” Finally, PTC got to the main event: a plug for the a-la-carte-pushing Television Consumer Freedom Act: “It’s time for consumers to have a real voice in what they want to pay for on their cable bills.”

And those faux school-shooting victims will not have died in vain.

I think they are ridiculous too, but people like me who desperately want a la carte television so we don't have to pay for 300 channels of family crap and non-learning channels and non-history channels and horrible broadcast networks everything else not on FX or AMC or BBC or HBO or Showtime, would gladly join forces with any idiot to help make that happen. I think they will be disappointed by their bills when it actually happens though, and I will be super happy.

So.....is Tara really preggo? What sort of plan is Wendi up to? Is Tig dead? My guess is no since they didn't show it.

Don't know if I like the Marshall character. I liked him at first, but don't like the druggie, **** up aspect. Peter Wellers quips about Persians crack me up........

I think I truly hate what they have done to Jaxs character. Despicable. he's become what he was trying to avoid in the early seasons. No one to root for anymore, except for Nero.

Ok, so i've been checking this out pretty heavy lately, a work pal has been loaning me his seasons on dvd and i'm gonna start season three tonight... he says its loosely based on the origins and growth of the Hells Angels.

But the first thing that crosses my mind when i think about him saying that, is that based on every single thing i've ever read, the HA were never even CLOSE to being as organized and slick as this crew, with the cops, judges and local pillars in their pockets, the cops openly commiserating with them in public etc... this show makes them out to be like the mafia, it doesnt jibe at all with what i know of the Angels.

Having said that, i'm digging the show big time, very entertaining... Katie Sagal, wow, who knew there was so much more to her than Peg Bundy, that lady is one HELL of an actress, she's the most impressive actor by far, followed by Perlman.

And damn, she looks just as good and maybe even better than she did 15-20 years ago, THAT lady has really aged well.

So yeah, in spite of some of the credulity straining storylines, i'm loving this show, cant wait to start season three tonight and see what happens with the kidnapped Heir to the Throne.

I'll just break it to you now. IMO season 2 was the high point. I like the other seasons, but that one was the best.

Thanks for the tip, sounds a lot like my take on the Sopranos more or less... the early seasons seem to be the most fresh and groundbreaking.
