Abolishing handshakes: for or against?

What do you think about handshakes?

Personally, I see little advantage to them. In a best case scenario I get a warm dry hand with a reasonable grip. But over the course of my career I've gripped sweaty hands, clammy hands, had my fingers crushed, and probably caught colds. While shaking a woman's hand is fine, I also have a general policy of not touching men and handshakes force me to do so.

I have good company in this opinion. If you didn't know, George Washington refused to shake hands, and would often ensure that his hands were full in situations where hand shaking might be expected. He preferred a bow instead, as do our friends in Japan. Japan is a nice country that hasn't tried to kill us in over 70 years, and some good ideas come out of those islands.

What would you think about a handshake ban, and we replace it with a polite minor bow?

Imagine a line full of hockey players bowing politely to one another through an end-of-playoff series handshake line.

It would be cool, classy, and more time-efficient. Let's do this.

There is way too much nonverbal communication passed through a handshake for me to ever consider giving it up. Now, I'm sure there is every bit as much nuance involved in a bow, but given that I'm pushing 40, I'm reminded of a story about old dogs.

No handshakes in 2016.

Fist bump, no matter what the occasion, whether it's a birthday, regular party, seeing a parent at drop off or pickup, business meetings, etc. and so on.

Fist bump, baby.

I can tell a lot about a man based on his handshake and body language during said handshake. If I close a big business contract, there is only one way to signify the closing of the deal and that is a firm handshake

I don't like fist bumps. They're too hipster. If we ever meet, though, I'd prefer that over the hug.

However, I will hug your wife. I enjoy hugging women for some instinctive reason.
