Seems worth considering anyway. I just worry that most of the grad-transfer kind of kids are looking to get their numbers first. Someone like Elijah Brown (formerly of Butler, now graduating from UNM) seems like 20 points per game waiting to happen but it will take him 17 shots to get there and I just don't know if you want a volume scorer on a rebuilding team.

Huh...well that's interesting.

Some of the MWC fans seemed to think that Brown was going to transfer to Cal and that Martin like him.

So I appear to have inadvertently stumbled down a rabbithole that might be worth keeping an eye on. I still don't know that I want him; seems like he might be a raging d-bag. Was about to get suspended by the MWC for cheap shots and as previously mentioned, he's a ball-stopper who doesn't appear fond of defense.

That depends on your definition of success. Calipari lives off of one-and-dones, gets a consistently higher caliber of recruit to be a role-player, and yet there are several years where his teams are 8-seeds or worse.

Even if everything went right next year, it is hard to imagine this is much more than a bubble team. Look at what happened to the Heat and Cavs in their first year, or even the Warriors for a large chunk of this year. It takes time for basketball teams to jell; it's not unlike an offensive line in that regard.

Getting Porter isn't necessarily important for the titles he will bring (he won't), but for the caliber of recruit that will consider Missouri as a school worthy of their attendance. Even then, getting elite players will be difficult (b/c Mizzou has all the advantages w/ Porter imaginable and yet still might not get him), and even if he turns into an NBA superstar, it's not going to change the image of the program much (how much did it help San Diego State, Arizona State, Texas, Davidson, et. al?).

Temper your expectations and get back to being able to actually enjoy basketball coached by someone who doesn't have a Jim Crow philosophy towards the game.

Martin's success will hinge on how well he can consistently recruit STL.

As will any MU coach. Amazingly, trying to find the next Jason Sutherland and Derek Grimm didn't pan out for Anderson. But who could have predicted?

If they get Michael Porter Jr, Tilmon, Mark Smith and Jontay Porter, in addition to CJ Roberts, I absolutely expect a tournament berth next year and would be disappointed if it's below the 7-8 line.

That's a huge amount of talent, and paired with a couple of average role player types in Puryear and Phillips and an above-average swingman in Barnett, should be a tourney squad.
