NHL and NHLPA reach an agreement - lockout FINALLY over

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...cba-framework/

NHL lockout: Owners, players reach tentative agreement on CBA framework

After more than 16 consecutive hours of bargaining on the 113th day of the lockout, the NHL and NHLPA reached a tentative agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement around 5 a.m. Sunday.

“We have reached an agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement, the details of which need to be put to paper,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said during a news conference, standing next to NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr.

“We’ve got to dot a lot of I’s and cross a lot of T’s,” Bettman said. “There’s still a lot of work to be done, but the basic framework of the deal has been agreed upon.”

The deal still requires ratification from the players and the NHL’s Board of Governors before it becomes official, but the league is expected to play a 50- or 48-game season that starts no later than Jan. 19.

Glad they reached a deal to get at least 40+ games in this year.

Very happy to be able to play some hockey and then hit the pub with the mates to catch NHL games again.

Born & raised in NYC but not a Rangers fan & I definitely think they'll be there in the Cup final.

A well rested Lundqvist only having to play 30 or so games will be very beneficial to the Blue shirts as well as their d-men being just as rested.

They fluttered against the Devils because their defense was just running on empty. Couldn't keep up with that fierce forecheck the Devils displayed in the ECF.

Torts went way over the top with his blocking and tough team concept. They were essentially playing a penalty-kill system when it was 5 on 5. Add to that what was a very under rated Devils forecheck and you got a series dominated by NJ save for the 1st game. The Devils past ways are just that.

The Rangers have a lot of contract issues coming up, with Gaborik most likely leaving next year and them then having to try and keep all their young pieces. This is the year for them. Not surprisingly, I am hoping it doesn't work out.

The one thing I really want to see is how Nash plays with a very skillful center finally AND how he reacts to the playoffs & plays in the playoffs. Also, I'm a firm believer that this has to be the year that Staal proves he's an elite defenseman. I've been calling him out for the last two years as an over-hyped borderline bust.

The silent killer for the Rangers however, is their 3rd defensive pairing - absolute trash. The Washington series exposed that BIG TIME. Having McDonagh play almost 53min in that overtime game is a major red flag.

I'm sorry but these are NOT elite stats. Not the helpers, not the ginos & certainly not the +/-.

Dear fans who don't care,

Why do you care so much about the popularity of hockey? It's not a high school popularity contest. I could rattle off several products, companies, sports, etc; that have gotten worse as popularity soared. Do you only like things everyone else likes? The truth doesn't hurt. It's not the NFL, and I don't want it to become the NFL. It's not folding any time soon, so kindly don't care by not spending your time talking about the NHL and acting like it'll never find a date to prom.

kthxbye.

I never got that either. Who cares if it's behind NFL or NBA, etc?

It's my favorite sport and I play it a lot but I don't waste my time with pissing contests about hockey. Especially on a football message board.

Its kind of funny those who don't care, don't care so much that they bother reading this thread, posting in it, and arguing.
