Country Club Plaza = Bannister Mall part 2?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - More than 100 teens converged on the Country Club Plaza Saturday night and created a ruckus for patrons and a lot of work for Kansas City police officers.

Read more: http://www.kshb.com/dpp/news/local_n...#ixzz2tczs9I7u

Stories like those about the plaza have been rolling in for the last year or longer. At one point there was a shooting and they have put a curfew in place

I remember years ago bannister mall area was thriving. Hypermart and all the other surrounding stores were very popular and always busy. Crime slowly strangled the area and people chose to go elsewhere. The whole place turned into a ghost town. Obviously Cerner is building there now but the question I pose is simple

There are a lot of options other than the plaza around KC so...

Will the Plaza die the same way the Bannister area did?

Westport got a lot better since Americas Pub wasn't renewed. The reason there's loitering on the plaza is because the movie theater. If they made it to where nobody under the age of 18 was allowed without an adult the plaza issue would be solved.

Yup there's already crime around there and most people who live in the city prefer the crossroads district to P&L.

Consistently going downhill. The Money is going elsewhere and its more trashy and starting to attract a bad element.

The only complaint I have with the Plaza is..I can't tell the difference between the Hookers and the Rich women...They both dress the same.

It's all relative.

If you buy a house for $200,000 and it goes up 25% before you sell it you make $50,000

If you buy a house for $500,000 and it goes up the same 25% you make $125,000

With rates so low and the market here so strong, it's worked out very well.

Rather an expensive house in a strong market in an affluent area then a cheap shitbox in a weak market in a so-so area...LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Ask all the people who bought in San Francisco within the last 5-6 years how much they are making and it's a boatload. Just takes a lot of clams to get into the game in California

It's all relative. Coming from the rural Ozarks, it's hard for me to put the JoCo housing market in context, let alone the Bay Area. I just can't see how so many individuals have so much money. I know there are corporate offices and portfolios, but surely most of these individuals have a head start? How do folks making $50k to start pay off their college loans and afford their $3K monthly rent? How do they get ahead?

You're correct. When people first move to either NY, DC, or San Fran after college they normally will rent a small place with friends or find a room to get started. Also they tend to live a little outside and have a small commute.

The big difference today is that college costs have been blown out of the water by too much easy money, just like the housing market was. Taking on $80K, $100K, or more in debt for college is crazy money. I feel very sorry for today's young people.

You normally don't buy your first property in any of these markets unless you make big bucks-these are markets people tend to move into a little later in life after they get going.

Salaries around here are crazy, even for government employees who make $75K or more for do nothing jobs, many making $125K, $150K and the like.

Your tax dollars hard at work.

This!! Hell I used to party down there constantly, even got engaged at Californos on V day. (Did not marry) Westport was rough about 5 years ago. The cops literally told us to stay out of there for our own safety as their were mobs of people starting shit.

Have been down there the last few years and it's back and better than ever. Love love love Westport again. And **** you Zach, I have a beige colored JoCo house and season tix to SKC, now I'm an army of one.
