Doctor Who

Been meaning to start a thread on this for years and never have for some reason. Big fan of both the original (what I've seen/remember of it...) and the rebooted series.

New doctor:

This is not next season, rather it's the 2nd half of the 6th.

BBC releases details of the rest of Doctor Who series 6

Simon Brew

The BBC has filled in some of the blanks regarding the shape of Doctor Who series 6’s remaining episodes. Details here…

Published on Jul 26, 2011

Starting on Saturday 27th August, there are six more episodes to go as part of Doctor Who series 6, and the BBC has revealed some more details of them. Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to…

6.8: Let’s Kill Hitler by Steven Moffat

An episode that promises to pick up from the end of A Good Man Goes To War, this one features Albert Welling as Hitler, and is directed by Richard Senior. The synopsis? Glad you asked…

”In the desperate search for Melody Pond, the TARDIS crash lands in 1930s Berlin, bringing the Doctor face to face with the greatest war criminal in the Universe. And Hitler. The Doctor must teach his adversaries that time travel has responsibilities - and in so doing, learns a harsh lesson in the cruellest warfare of all.”

6.9: Night Terrors by Mark Gatiss

We know the title for Gatiss’ latest Doctor Who story (following The Unquiet Dead, The Idiot’s Lantern and Victory Of The Daleks). It’s called Night Terrors (although this had been revealed a little earlier), is set in the modern day, and “features a little boy who has a fear of something.” Gatiss says that this “features some of the scariest moments he’s ever dreamt up.”

6.10: The Girl Who Waited by Tom MacRae

This is an episode title we didn’t know. Tom MacRae, who wrote The Rise Of The Cybermen/The Age Of Steel, writes for Matt Smith for the first time. The BBC hasn’t revealed any fresh plot details of the story, but it has confirmed that Nick Hurran is directing.

6.11: The God Complex by Toby Whithouse

Being Human genius Toby Whithouse has attracted David Walliams to his episode. Walliams is set to play an alien by the name of Gibbis, and the story itself (which is one of the creepiest looking of the series) is set in a hotel. Nick Hurran is directing this one, too.

6.12: Untitled by Gareth Roberts

This one is still without a name, but it does bring back James Corden as Craig Owens. We last saw the character in last year’s The Lodger. We caught a glimpse of this episode in the trailer that the BBC released the other day, complete with Corden and Matt Smith getting a little up close and personal.

6.13: Untitled by Steven Moffat

There’s no shortage of threads already to tie together this series, and Karen Gillan has teased that this final episode of series 6 will feature “possibly the biggest twist so far”. We’re intrigued to see just what that is…

For more details, head over to the BBC’s Doctor Who website, here.

Karen Gillan confirms she’s appearing in Doctor Who series 7

Simon Brew

Karen Gillan will be joining Matt Smith in Doctor Who series 7, the actress confirms...

Published on Jul 26, 2011

There’s been no shortage of speculation as to what shape the next series of Doctor Who will take. We already know that it’ll be filmed next year, and that Matt Smith is returning. What’s unlikely is that we’ll get all of those episodes screened in 2012, and that instead, there’s a big build up to the show’s fiftieth birthday in 2013 planned.

There was particular speculation over the involvement of Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, given that each had commitments elsewhere. This led many to put two and two together. Turns out, they might have made five.

Karen Gillan, then, chatting to Zap2It, has confirmed, “I am going to come back, yes,” with relation to the next series of the show. That, obviously, still leaves some gaps. Will she be back for the full season run? Or will she be doing a Billie Piper, and returning for just a few episodes?

Given that the modern day lifespan of the Doctor Who assistant has been two full season runs, Gillan is either about to break that ceiling, or there’s something up everyone’s sleeve that we don’t yet know about. It’s quite feasible that both of those things may be true.

There is Doctor Who 'Spoilers' page on Facebook called TARDIS Newsroom Spoilers that claims that Donna, Martha and Rose will appear in the next episode to help the Doctor. I'm thinking it must be a Flashback or something. Otherwise, I don't see how it would be possible- with exception of Martha.

The God Complex episode sounds interesting apparently David Walliams plays a Mole-like alien who doesn't mind being abducted.

Meh, I suppose that's okay. I am already bored with her and Rory, but maybe they'll find a way to make it work. I'd prefer a fresh start with a new assistant. This Doctor seems far too tied to Amy Pond. Also, I'd prefer Moffat to go back to writing individual episodes of Doctor Who and let someone else be the show runner. I still think the Moff's best work were the episodes he wrote for RTD. I don't know... Series 6.5 might change my mind about it though.

That episode was okay... I was a little let down because of all the high reviews that claimed it to be more than it was. Yes, some big questions got answered, and some charmingly funny lines were spoken, but the whole "Mel" thing was way too contrived, and the baddie in the episode reminded more of a bad Eddie Murphy movie than of T2. It was probably a 7 out 10 for me.

Is it bad that I was rooting for the Doctor to die? Also- I was very disappointed that we'll never see a younger actress play "River" as opposed to Melody.

It was an entertaining episode albeit slightly goofy. The "Doctor is dead dying no he isn't "schtick could get played out fast.

I cast my vote for the hot young black chick replacing the plain jane currenlty playing River Song.
