The Hateful Eight

Yeah, yeah I know it's also marketed as "The H8teful Eight", but that's dumb.

Indeed! And I had to edit my original post. It was Jerry GoldSmith who score the Omen but for some reason I remembered it as Morricone's work.

Yes, it's QT, but it was excessive IMO
JJL had a good point in an interview she did about the character. It's not misogynistic- in fact, the exact opposite. She's treated no different than the men. Even from the start, she's being brought in to hang just like any man. She's not roughed up any differently than what a man would get, and her being called a Bitch isn't any different from all the nasty shit she calls everyone else.
She's treated like a wanted criminal and is being taken to answer to justice and the hangman. At no point is she threatened by rape or sexual violence, but simply treated as the depraved criminal she is.

The character relishes being tough and even comments after the first time she gets popped in the carriage by asking if that was all the hardest he could hit and insinuating she wasn't fazed by it and could take a lot worse.

If you really look at the character and how willfully defiant she is in the film this is not a case of a man or men subjugating a woman or condoning "domestic violence". Any argument otherwise is a misplayed feminist card and takes very little time to break down the situation and appreciate the situation. Not every violent encounter between the sexes is a Ray Rice incident.

Yeah, I was hesitant to even bring it up because I have never been in the boat of QT should not be allowed to use the word ****er. It's inauthentic and ingenuine to say this or that character somehow has to be PC simply because the guy who wrote the script is white.

Some people simply hear the word and get outraged without understanding any context.

The cinematography and score were exquisite. Now, I hope he's gotten his need to do a Western out of his system. I only say that because I have interest in seeing him tackle some other genres.

It's a little icky to me seeing white actors saying it and it being written by a white man.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but it does make me feel uncomfortable.

Maybe that's the intent??

Of course it's the intent. Do you think that work wasn't used a LOT in reality in that time frame? It may be a slap in the face to your sensibilities, but it doesn't scratch the surface of what blacks had to endure then.

Exactly. For the time period, some name calling was about the last thing you need worry as a black man or woman in the day. Doesn't excuse it, but to omit the use and reality of the state of affairs is to whitewash the situation, and I think people who want to be racially sensitive should be more outraged by portraying a flat out lie. It's a black mark on American History, and to PC it up is a bigger insult.

You act like the movie is historically accurate in phrasings etc. Its not, its filled with modern phrasings and music etc, mixed with historical accuracies and innacuracies.

It was just way overused and took away from the movie. It was. I dunno what else to say.

Good movie, overused N.

This.

It's not like QT movies are mean to be historically accurate.

His movies live in their own fantasy world.

great cinematography but the movie itself was kind of boring and predictable.

Just got back, and I loved the hell out of it. And the programs were pretty cool. I heard each theater received a different character in the centerfold. Ours were Goggins.

Spoiler!

This score here was worth the extra $ for the roadshow version alone. Sets the mood perfectly. Another awesome job by Ennio Morricone.
