Chiefs announce Bray as the backup QB
http://arrowheadaddict.com/2016/05/2...p-quarterback/
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid made a surprising declaration on Tuesday afternoon. The Chiefs are still a little more than two months away from the start of training camp in St. Joe’s, but we already have some very interesting news on the depth chart front. Reid has proclaimed that Tyler Bray, not Aaron Murray or Kevin Hogan, is entering training camp as the primary backup quarterback to Alex Smith. Murray was a fifth-round pick back in 2014 while Hogan was a fifth-round selection in April. Despite being an undrafted free agent in 2013, Bray has stuck on the roster but never appeared or been active for a game in the regular season. He was placed on injured reserve last year after sustaining a torn ACL in a pickup basketball game. Bray has all the physical tools you could want. He’s 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds and at 24 years old, might finally be seizing the moment after sitting behind Chase Daniel and Murray. It will be fascinating to see if Bray can hold off Murray and Hogan in camp, not having thrown a competitive pass in two years. |

If Bray has progressed enough to supplant Murray...that's fantastic news.
I had written him off as an entitled frat-boy.... |

The second receiver, the second corner, the nickel corner, Justin Houston’s replacement ... there are a lot of fun position battles to look forward to this training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the most important position battle is backup quarterback. Potentially the most important. If this year is anything like the previous three years, the backup quarterback won’t matter. Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray or whoever it is will come into a Week 17 game to throw some passes in a game that doesn’t matter because the Chiefs have wrapped up the division (we can hope). If, however, things don’t go as planned, Bray or Murray could play a starring role in the Chiefs 2016 season. Let’s say Alex gets hurt. The Chiefs are probably screwed, right? We went over that recently with most of us saying they’re a sub-.500 team without Alex so you hope it’s not a long injury. But they’re still going to play the games and we’re still going to watch. That means this is still an important position battle ... potentially. Tyler Bray got the initial No. 2 reps this offseason over Aaron Murray. They each have their strengths but more than anything they are both unknowns. As much as I want to say we learn a lot in training camp, it’s still really difficult to evaluate the second and third quarterbacks. Bray went undrafted in 2013 and was very young and immature. He’s grown up the past three years. He has the physical skills that an NFL coach can work with. I’m sure Andy Reid believes in his ability to coach anyone up but you can’t coach physical talent so I’m intrigued here. Murray is a multi-year starter from Georgia who, like Bray, hasn’t done much in the past two seasons. Murray comes off as a smart dude like Alex Smith. He’s also got some sneaky athleticism like Alex. I can see where he would fit. Then there’s Kevin Hogan who doesn’t really factor in here. Without seeing training camp yet, I’d be stunned if Hogan were involved in the No. 2 competition. I would lean to Bray winning this job. As I said, Andy Reid believes he can coach anyone up. Bray, who is only 24 years old, has raw skills that Reid believes he can translate into the NFL level. My early money is on Bray.

His arm has never been the Issue. I hope he can grow a head at some point in time and become a solid QB. This will likely be his do or die training camp.

Bray as the #2 increases the Chiefs sexy-factor by +0.12 % across all offensive datum.

I am calmly hoping that we nailed a sleeper in Hogan. He won the most games for a Stanford QB in their history and carried them to a title. But Reid has stated that he's excited about his accuracy and anticipation. That right there is HUGE in being able to perform at the NFL level. And then throw in he graduated Stanford shows his intelligence. Is he the next Tom Brady ?
He's 6'3" while Murray is 6'0". But Murray is the winningest QB in SEC history right. So he's a gamer. I think in the end Bray gets traded off for a 6th to someone and we end up with Murray #2 and Hogan #3. |

Brays a lot like Osweiler in that they are both big, strong armed QBs who needed time to develop. It'd be a shame if KC spends all this time developing Bray only to trade him off for a low round pick. KC at least, has to give Bray a lot of playing time in preseason. Alex Smith sure doesn't need preseason snaps.

It seems so wide open, and each guy has his own roughly equal list of pros and cons, that I dont even have a gut feeling on how this plays out
But I can tell you who I HOPE makes the cut, and thats Bray. Gimme some of that Mad Bomber action... I'm willing to deal with the Alex Smith medium game for now, but I definitely long for and miss that quick strike ability that we havent had since forever Our next starter needs to be a field stretching gunslinger who keeps DB's on their heels for 60 minutes |

The backup position doesn't mean shit.
we should just carry 2 QBs anyone, Reid isn't developing a dam thing. He'll stay here until Alex Smith retires and then Reid will retire himself. QB guru my ass. Not sure why they are pretending like they are developing a QB. They have been giving our young QB so little reps they might as well not exist. Just sign a veteran clip holder and use the draft picks on someone we will actually use.
