Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

I hear you, i'm no scientist and don't know every angle, but just off the top of my head... how they deal with pathogens and diseases, why they're immune to some and not others, how they communicate is a biggie, the interactions between the sexes, how and when they breed, even if only in controlled environments.

The idea i really like is dismantling 9 of 10 parks and having the worlds scientists put their money into much fewer, but much bigger and better research facilities for them... HUGE pools with varying depths, wave action machines that partially simulate oceanic currents, anything to better their lives and make it more comfortable/natural.

It would never be the open ocean, but would atleast help things imo.

And theres always the possibility of something going drastically wrong with wild populations, in which case it would be great to have captive stock you could breed and hope to release into the wild to aid in repopulation.

Just a few ideas that go beyond orcas into any animal we're worried about losing.

Thanks for the recommendation. My family and I enjoyed this one.

It's taken several months to percolate to the top of my netflix queue and I didn't remember who recommended it. It was slightly difficult to figure out since search here requires 4+ letter words, but I'm glad I found your post because that's 2 for 2 on recommendations from you, so I need to follow your entertainment lead more closely.

I know it's been getting good reviews, but Saving Mr. Banks was a disappointment in my book. Took my niece and nephew, and the movie was kinda just sad about how Mrs. Tavers (Mary Poppins creator) and Walt Disney, to some degree, grew up in dysfunctional homes and their outlets were these fantasy worlds to escape sad childhoods. That would be fine and all, but it never really turned a corner and had a great redeeming scene to fulfill the story.

That's fair enough.

On another note, I watched The Croodz or however it was supposed to be spelled. It was pretty good; the sloth was really cute.

It was definitely an interesting movie....obviously skewed in one direction but that was to be expected.

It wasn't your typical "x" is evil type of documentary though. It's crazy that I've NEVER heard of any of those attacks. Sea World must be ****ing awesome at covering that shit up.

Honestly though....I'd do like you said in a post above this one. Shut down the parks and build a massive one. Not a "come watch the orcas do stupid tricks" type park....but a come watch them in their natural habitat type park. More like a HUGE ****ing aquarium. It's pretty sad that shit like this happens.

The problem is that it's simply impossible to build a natural habitat for them that's sufficient for their lifestyle. They have a range of up to 1000 miles. And they need that kind of space.

Sad deal for sure.

The Wolf of Wall Street was a blast- 3 hours of complete overindulgance, but wonderful as you would expect from Scorsese. I was totally impressed with Jonah Hill's performance, as well as the guy that played the main FBI agent, Agent Denim, and Leo was very good also. I guess I just was amused by Hill's character the most. MM's character was also a good cameo- he's in it way less than I thought he'd be.

Not a family flick- tons of nudity, and his 2nd wife (Leo's), Naomi, is banging hot, 10 outta 10. Kinda funny that his 1st wife is played by the same girl that's the mystery mom in How I Met Your Mother.

If anyone wants to watch a violent movie (and when I say violent, I don't mean that a couple people get shot... I mean that people get completely slashed up in plain view)...

And if you don't mind subtitles....

"The Man from Nowhere" is a pretty ****ing incredible action movie and available on Netflix

No lie about Sea Worlds cover up skills, only a handful of dozens of attacks ever saw the light of day.

And SpikeTV is showing The Departed. That is definitely one movie that does not work with the bad words dubbed over.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was pretty good. It doesn't change your world or anything but it is unique in how its filmed and it is very entertaining in its simplistic way. It also has some good humorous moments as well.

I think I've watched only like 5 good movies this year. Just finished the Purge and I have to watch another movie. I can't allow my 2013 to end on that note movie-wise. Movie was just 2 hours of facepalm inducing decisions.

Just watched All is Lost with Robert Redford, and loved it. He's the only actor in it and there's about 50 words of dialogue in the movie, but I found it really enjoyable.

I can see how others might be bored as hell with it, but I really liked it.
