I'll ask again: if it's such a crappy league, why did Mike Slive sign a post-season bowl contract with them?

As a large man once said, "dollar signs".

The Big 12 isn't a crappy league; at least not when you compare it to any league other than the SEC. It just has no real appeal.

There are two schools that anyone cares about nationally. Texas is in a freefall that would make Nebraska blush, and Oklahoma has been exposed as a team that has fattened up for years against mediocre teams only to get their shit pushed in when the postseason rolls around. Hell, you can now pencil in a bad loss or two during the regular season for them as well.

The strength of the Big 12 is its 7-9. That's something, but I don't think anyone is getting a boner over winning the Holiday, Car Care, Alamo, and Heart of Dallas bowls, especially when the conference had a losing record in bowl games overall, got spanked by a combined 46 points in the two good bowls, and didn't have a single impressive win outside of conference.

We get it. Some of us don't care about paying $180,000 to win a championship. Why don't you understand this?

You play in a crooked league dude. And if you ever hope to win you're going to have to start getting dirty. It's college football...

If the SEC was concerned about "weak links" in football, they'd never have added Mizzou. Seriously: 2-6 first year and dominated. At least you beat Kentucky, so there's that.

The SEC should boot Mizzou, Kentucky, the Miss Schools (who haven't done a damn thing in their entire histories), Vandy from the League and just go with 10 football-first schools. Make a true football league and pick up Va Tech. Let Kentucky join the ACC for basketball purposes, Vandy the Big 10 for academids, the Miss Schools go Sun Belt (where they belong) and Mizzou? Back to the Big 12 or who cares where.

How many SEC teams are on probation? How many had to vacate titles? How many have even had to vacate wins?

That's not to say that nobody gets in trouble in the SEC. It happens everywhere, and it's dealt with accordingly. Things like ticket scalping (Kansas), large scale drug busts (TCU), murders (where the coach blames the victim by accusing him of being a drug dealer) (Baylor), coaches abusing players (Kansas, Texas Tech basketball, Texas Tech football), coaches getting trashed at college parties (Iowa State), impermissible contact with recruits (Oklahoma), etc. etc. etc. aren't limited to the Big 12.

I still believe that the stories that surfaced about Mangino are completely ludicrous.

80% of Nebraska fans cheer for KU during basketball season. So what's the big deal?

Holy shit. That is a shit sandwich if I've ever seen one. How do you sell that to your fans?

4 schools in bold all had higher Sagarin's than Mizzou this year. So you're saying that Mizzou is worse than a shit sandwich?

I'm sure Texas fans get really fired up over the prior season's Sagarin ratings of teams nobody follows...when they aren't busy fapping over how the next to last place team in their conference is the best next to last place team in all the land.

I wonder if there's a way to fit all of that excitement into a catchy marketing slogan.

Big 12 football: Come for the somewhat respectable Sagarin rankings. Stay for the teams near the bottom of our barrel that are better than the bottom of the barrel in most other conferences.

Granted, it's no "History Awaits", but it has a nice ring to it.

KU spends as much on football as anyone their size does, including coaching salaries. You seem to be confused.

Also, who says basketball is "secondary" to football anyway? You? Lou Holtz? Random Mizzou fans? I doubt you even know simple facts about the economics of either sport. March Madness is vastly more popular than the Bowl games are. Which is probably why football is about to drop the bowl games to go to the basketball model.
