Sutton's Defense Won't Dictate Or Attack

His defense lacks any sense of toughness and attack. He doesn't dictate anything. When he blitzes he blitzes to blitz and not to dictate what the ofense can and cannot do.

Take Wade Phillips on the other hand. The guy instantly upgrades any defense he coaches regardless of talent. Why? Because he has a defense that dictactes what an offense must do. Not sit back trying to defend against any and everything possible.

Preseason or not, toughness and an attacking mentality are something that shows regardless. Sutton's defenses are soft, reactionary and undisciplined.

How this guy still has a job bogles the minds of most. But I am afraid what we've seen the last few years is what we will see again. Minimal attack, dependency on a turnover. Lots of time on the field defensively.

Nope. Go back and look at the history, whether or the Chiefs or football in general. Defensive “geniuses” have coached some really bad defenses. It’s all about talent. Schemes have ups and downs, good players make good plays.

Houston was the only LB on the team that can cover. Who else are you going to use? You can’t run dime all the time because the front can’t stop the run. Again, bad players = bad defense.

Just think about what you are even saying. A LB covering the best WR in the league. That in and of itself is beyond idiotic.

I think Sutton did a good job his first few years as a DC. And I'll push back on anyone who says otherwise. But he looked absolutely lost last year. Sure, injuries were an issue. But he hasn't proven he can succeed once they took away his nickel/dime as a crutch.

I was fine with his defense then. I don't love it now. The game has moved past the McDermotts and Monty Kiffins of the world. I'm still disappointed that even though the game is moving back to a Jim Johnson brand of defense, we completely skipped the boat on that last year. I don't think Sutton will magically become Jim Johnson aggressive just because Reid asks him to.

You obviously don’t understand NFL defenses, Pete. It happens all the time, every single Sunday. LB’s cover WR’s all the time. Usually it’s offset by other players doing their jobs. Our defensive personnel is awful. Bring in Wade Phillips and he’ll suck too.

They actually finished top FIVE in scoring 3 times in 5 years. The 2014 and 2015 defenses were top 10 in points and yards.

Sorry. You will never, ever convince me that there is a legitimate reason one of the best pass rushers in the league is covering the best WR in the league. Not once but twice in the same game.

Just not buying it.

Our defense was relying on Sorenson, Zombo, Gaines, Murray and Revis/DJ/Tamba who were done. Add in that Berry and Ford were done for the year early in the season.

There is not a DC in NFL history who could look good with that pile of shit.
