SNR's Pre-Senior Bowl Chiefs Mock

This mock is a bit overly optimistic. A lot of these picks are pipe dreams, even though Walter Football mocks the guys in the first four rounds later than when they show up in this draft. I'm expecting that a lot of them will get drafted earlier. Think of this as my last bit of fun before the reality of the combine sets in, and I won't be able to project some of these players to KC when I do.

I'm assuming that Albert and Colquitt are re-signed. Not sure about Bowe, but regardless of whether he's here or not, I added some new blood at WR to help alleviate the setback our WRs will take. I'm also assuming we get an extra 3rd and 7th round compensatory selection.

Supposedly Andy Reid doesn't go very heavy on secondary or linebackers, and likes offensive and defensive linemen. Yeah? Well he also likes the 4-3 defense, but that's not happening now. For lack of a firm grasp of some of the later round guys, I'm purely drafting players that I know and like, and who fill a need on this football team. Screw accuracy.

1. Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia- What do you call a QB with good size, great arm strength, a phenomenal release, excellent pocket awareness, and the touch and accuracy required to play QB for Andy Reid? You call him Numbah One.

2. Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State- The first of the "there's no way this guy will be available when it's our turn" picks. I feel a bit splurgey here taking a guy so high when this draft is incredibly deep at CB, but I think the world of Rhodes. He's a truly legit starting NFL CB. His tackling needs work, but he's fearless and aggressive, and rarely finds himself in bad spots in coverage. His physical playing style makes him ideal for the 3-4

3. Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno State- All kinds of things are being talked about this guy (not to be confused with last year's Phillip Thomas from Syracuse, who was kind of a dickhead). He'll make a great SS in the NFL, having played both safety spots fairly well at Fresno State, but excelling in the box and in run support. Time for us to put Berry back where he ****ing belongs and get someone else for the job he currently occupies.

3. Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State- Andy Reid's Desean Jackson. Super soft hands and blazing speed. Okay height, looks a little lean, but he's hardly a midget. Ya'll were saying it's a problem how we have no receivers with speed and separation ability who can take the top off the defense? Not anymore.

4. John Simon, DE/OLB, Ohio State- This guy has been a terror against my Wisconsin Badgers for so long, and I'm glad to finally be rid of him. He's a super-smart player who's tenacious at exploding into the backfield. Has a wicked spin move that he uses a lot. Very smart, physical. Urban Meyer ****ing loves this kid for his leadership on the field. **** Manti Te'o. This is REAL stuff we can use in the defensive huddle.

5. Gerald Hodges, ILB, Penn State- Another B1G linebacker, yes. Looks a little light and lean, but he's speedy, rangy, and sheds blocks like a mother****er. In the 1-gap we'll be running, we'll need far more players like him who cut through the line of scrimmage and make plays in the backfield. Oh, and did I mention he's phenomenal in coverage close to the line of scrimmage? Would probably be better suited in Derrick Johnson's LB spot, but that's okay if he sits down for a year and plays special teams. If there were ever a player to exemplify Dorsey's BPA jargon, he's it.

6. Chris Gragg, TE, Arkansas- While watching Tyler Wilson's games this year, he's one of the receivers that kept showing up. Huge size with soft hands. I think what I love most about him is his ability to run after the catch. I can just see him now as a potential 3rd down savior for Geno Smith. Not a very effective blocker according to Hog fans, but **** it. It's the 6th round, and we can get one of our other slapdick TEs to block.

7. Rex Burkhead, RB, Nebraska- Andy Reid has his Correll Buckhalter. But seriously, I've always liked Burkhead. I think he's got a real toughness to him that could make him a valuable NFL RB to some team. If Droughn or Gray don't find any consistency this offseason and in preseason, a guy like Burkhead could be a valuable weapon in contrast to Charles.

7. Omoregie Uzzi, OG, Georgia Tech- A player who caught my eye by chance when I was watching Georgia Tech/Georgia game earlier this season. Against behemoths Jenkins and Geathers, Uzzi could not be stopped. He made his man nearly invisible on every play. Very explosive from his lower body. It was well-suited to Georgia Tech's run heavy offense, for which I imagine he was a huge factor. For what the Chiefs would have him do, his skills as a run blocker won't be needed as often, but in the 7th round like this, you certainly need to take a chance on players like this. He certainly has the frame, tenacity, and ability to excel in pass protection in the NFL.
