low bass buzzing, even after speaker replacement?

OK, so my LCD bedroom TV started to buzz during any low bass sound effects/music. I figured the speakers were blown, and bought some replacements on ebay. Those are buzzing too!

So did I just get some bad speakers from some asshole on ebay, or could it be caused by something else?

I had considered buying a soundbar and going the external route, but this is an older tv and only worth about the cost of a soundbar. Now that the replacement speakers are buzzing I'm even more concerned this could be from some bad connection or a problematic audio chipset. I'd hate to blow $150+ on a soundbar and still have the problems.

So Chiefsplanet nerds, what besides antifreeze is a man to do?

Stop using internal speakers on an old TV to listen to current stuff. TV shows and movies are mostly heavy on rich sound design nowadays. If you're watching Blu-rays it's much worse than that since they're geared towards high end systems. I'm no audiophile (literal use) but I think you're probably stuck with mediocre to bad sound even if you did get screwed by ebay.

Quite honestly, you likely have the bass turned up too loud in your audio settings, so it needs to be reduced until the "buzzing" stops. Most likely, the buzzing you hear is the plastic shell of the LCD TV resonating.

LED's and LCD's aren't like traditional TV's or even Rear-Projection TV's that were created for picture and sound. LED's and LCD's are all about the picture, not the sound.

Your best bet is to either add a soundbar and wireless subwoofer or hook it up to a stereo receiver and speakers. You'll never get the audio performance you seem to desire otherwise.

I recently purchased a Vizio VSB200 for our playroom (47" LCD) and it rocks. There's a surprising amount of low end for not having a sub-woofer.

I purchased a Samsung Samsung HWE450, which has a wireless subwoofer and it's really nice as well, although quite a bit more expensive.

heh... it's not like I'm looking for even a "good" audio performance. I'm just looking for the same audio performance the TV provided for the last 4 years since we bought it. It's been on the same audio preset of 'movie' for that whole time, but I will crank the bass down to see if I can get rid of the horrendous blown speaker buzz.

Is your volume control digital or pentionmeter [ie, a dial]. If the latter, there may be some dust on the potentiometer [a series of copper plates separated by ceramic behind the dial] that can be cleared up with canned air and WD-40. Basically, the buzzing comes from the dust acting as a resistor in the signal path.
