Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

I was actually reading about this topic recently. I've been keeping about 10 fully loaded pmags for the last year or so. I also keep a couple XD9 mags fully loaded. A lot of people have said that they do the same with no operational flaws to speak of. And then some avoid it like the plague. From what I could find, however, there isn't a definitive answer to this.

UPDATE: I decided to email Magpul's technical support to ask and this is their reply...

Quote:
Thank you for your inquiry. The factor that truly wears out quality springs is compression cycles, not constant compression. However, we use a high-quality stainless steel springs in our PMAGs and if one ever does happen to wear out any USGI spec spring can be swapped out for the factory one.

We’ve had magazines fully loaded for over four years now with no Impact/Dust Cover on and have experienced no feed lip or spring issues. With the cover installed storage life is considered indefinite. There have also been PMAGS reportedly tested to hundreds-of-thousands of rounds (military vetting), and we know positively of ones that have gone tens-of-thousands, so usable life is quite excellent too.

Thank you,

The Magpul Team

How hard is it to assemble an AR?

Getting ready to purchase my first......

Found this manual..... http://www.gunsnet.net/manuals/BUILDERS_GUIDE.pdf

Doesn't look hard.

What am I missing? Alignment issues? Out of spec parts? What would stump a gun noob?

thanks

It's simple if you have the right basic tools.

You need a vice clamp mounted to a work bench, some basic punches, pliers, hammer, small rubber mallet, and if you are building the upper you need a good barrel wrench.

I have built quite a few and it is extremely simple.

The part that you need to concentrate on is the trigger assembly.

You will lose a few small springs, so purchase extras (especially the takedown pin springs).

I have a Rock River 2 stage NM on one of my bulls and Armalite NM 2 stages on my AR-10's.

My dad got a Giessle for his 24" .308 Bull and it's amazing.

On normal battle rifles we just use standard triggers from a LPK, but we polish them down to a 3.5-5 lb pull and replace a few springs. They end up being very nice.

I agree that once they are smoothed up they are great..I was just stating that if you get the CMC trigger there is no need to worry about springs..just drop it in

I have been wanting to build a AR10..I was thinking about the Giessle trigger..is it worth it..you said amazing so I'm guessing so but have to ask if you would go with it or another

DPMS is every bit as good as Armalite, and they are a lot cheaper.

Sig P238's are on sell at .......Palmetto......... for $415, which is about 150 less then you will find in any store.

Very easy to cycle the slide, and the recoil is non-existent. My wife is going to love it.

Thank you and **** you, Palmetto. My wallet has prolapsed due to the rape.

I dropped a few hundred dollars on Palmetto a couple weeks ago on a Mossberg shotty.

Today, they have complete AR15 lowers (rifle and pistol) for $129.99. I damn near bought one of each since the price is right. And I've been wanting to mess around with an AR15 pistol. They tend to sell out pretty quick when priced that low.

Thank you guys for posting on here about Palmetto. I picked up that Ruger LC9 with the Viridian laser for $300 a few weeks ago from Palmetto. Just got to shoot it for the first time last weekend. I like. I saw the same one at Cabelas for $150 more.

Can you recommend me a beginners bolt action rifle for fun target practice that isn't too expensive and has readily available ammunition?

Take a look at a cheap Remington 700 sps chambered in .223.

Found a quick link for you. You might be able to shave a few more dollars off this during a holiday sale.
