Let's talk about 'The Room' by Tommy Wiseau

I just learned about this movie a few weeks back. Supposed to be 'the best worst movie ever'... The Disaster Artist (Franco brothers, Seth Rogen) just came out not long ago as a film which was about the making of 'The Room' from 2003.

The film has a cult following to this day. So I watched some YouTube videos to figure out what the buzz was all about... why do people love this terrible movie? And I quickly realized their reasoning.

Some highlights:

So, I finally got around to watching the whole film and it truly is the most golden piece of shit to ever grace a movie screen. I still haven't checked out the Franco brothers' and Seth Rogen's film based around the original, but it has been positively regarded by many.

Has anyone else saw this? If so, thoughts? If not, do you plan to?

It really is a fascinating piece of art by Mr. Wiseau, with an incredible backstory if you ever become interested enough to look into it.

Samurai Cop tops this in terms of bad movies in my opinion.

But when it comes to bad actors, no one tops Wiseau or his story.

A lot of the "best worst movies" that people mention are just really boring, imo. I don't really give a shit about watching something like that. I'm glad to see people mentioning movies like Miami Connection and Hard Ticket to Hawaii; gloriously awful and endlessly entertaining. Troll 2 (1990) is also a worthy entry.

For those of you who enjoy bad movies, I recommend joining the torrent tracker Cinemageddon.

The Room is kinda fascinating. I saw a midnight show out here a few years ago that Wiseau hosted. It was fun because of all the fan interaction, but boy. It was difficult to sit through at times. I don't know the running time off hand, but it felt so long.

What's amazing is how something like this can basically never happen again. The chances that a total lunatic with 6 million dollars to blow wanting to make and star in a movie while having zero talent and infinite confidence... It's hard to be believe it happened once.

You ever hear of Neil Breen?

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3718935/

How about James Nguyen? He's the guy who did Birdemic: Shock and Terror

And also a guy named John De Hart who did an awesomely bad action movie with the legendary Wings Hauser called Road to Revenge (1993)

It happened in this movie too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_for_an_Insomniac

Tiffany DeBartolo - Eddie's Daughter wrote and directed this awful vanity pic, although she didn't star in it. Daddy's money got Jennifer Anniston and Ione Skye. But the dialog is so cringingly terrible.

The first 1/4 of the movie or so is black and white - until Ione Skye's love interest walks into the coffee shop where she works - then it turns to glorious color. Ughhhh

I've never seen so many lines of dialogue looped into a scene as the flower shop one. Combined with the cashier looking right at him and saying "Oh it's you Johnny, I didn't recognize you"...

Birdemic is great at being bad, but it was made on a shoestring. China has a LOTR rip-off that a friend of mine got paid to work on that is close to the Room...but it cost around $130 million(!!!):

I'll throw in an honorable mention to 'Monsturd'. It's about a large turd that kills people.

Why do you think it can't happen again? It seems like it could easily happen again. There are lots of untalented people out there with $6 million.
