Alright, gun rights folks. You say the problem is mental health.

For years on this forum and pretty much anywhere I discuss gun control with 2nd amendment absolutists like many on this forum, I argue that we need gun control in various forms.

In addition to some of the more radical notions that "2nd amendment rights" are absolute, I also frequently hear that America actually has a mental health problem, not a gun problem.

This is an argument that many of you have aired.

So, I am asking for what policies you want to be seen to deal with mental illness.

Here we have a kid losing his shit on social media, and by all accounts is probably at-risk for doing something horrendous at some point (NSFW):

Feel free to ignore the text that frames the video by Occupy Democrats, as it's worthless. Focus on my question.

Now, obviously losing your shit in front of a camera does not mean you will shoot up a crowd of people, but I think if we're all putting together a profile of someone who could eventually do that, he fits the profile. (Also, imagine if this guy were black or Muslim.)

What is it, exactly, that the gun enthusiasts in this forum who believe America's problem is mental health, suggest that we do with this individual?

C'mon, folks. You told me the problem is mental health policy. Explain to me how you fix it to address people who fly off the handle and say crazy, violent shit like this.

That's what I'm thinking. Who's going to confiscate all these "assault rifles"?

So if you're just batshit crazy, that's not going to prevent you from making a legal purchase.

Additionally, anyone can buy a gun from a private party with no background check.

Most idiotic post I have seen in quite some time....

Just look at the run up to the Bolshevik Revolution; notably the 'February Revolution' that tossed Czar Nicholas on his ass. That came about when Nicholas dispatched the Army to start shooting citizens. He was using the military to put down protests and they eventually turned on him. They surrendered their arms and in many cases flat out joined the protesters and started shooting at their 'former' officers.

Do you think the folks that overthrew the Romanov Dynasty had fire superiority? No, no they did not. But the army damn sure wasn't going to start firing on citizens and after being threatened and cajoled long enough, they turned around and used their weapons on their leaders.

Granted, the aftermath was a damn mess but the overthrow of the Czarist Russia on its own was a positive development. There was a real chance that a representative Democracy was going to be installed in its place. Kerensky's provisional government was looking for Democratic reforms.

Unfortunately Ludendorff unleashed Lenin on the Russian population and it all went to hell when he got traction and the October Revolution happened. But for about 6 months, there was a very strong possibility that Russia was going to end up among the most free countries in the world all because the Army refused to fire on its citizens.

If the Russian population had not had Lenin fanning the flames (again, at Ludendorff's urging to get Russia out of the war), Kerensky probably keeps them in the war for another few months, Germany falls quickly after the US enters and rather than lose all the territory they lost to Germany and Austria-Hungary (land eventually lost by both when the central powers surrendered), they'd have been in line to GAIN territory when the Ottoman Empire fell and was divvied up by the victors. Take a Democratic Russia and give them, say, Iraq - which was taken by the British after the breakup and given independence 10 years or so later (the Russians wouldn't have done so). What a different world we'd live in.

Have you ever read about on the U.S. incursion into northern Russia at the end of World War I? Fascinating stuff that I'd never heard about until reading this book:

To be fair he is making a blanket statement using half truths. It really depends on the state and their current gun laws. In Kansas you can legally sale to another Kansas resident in person as long as they are not a felon.

No paperwork required. Now if you ship the gun or sale to somebody from another state. You are required to go through an FFL dealer who will have to run a background check.
