Bob Costas on the future of football: 'This game destroys people's brains'

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...ins/842904001/

Quote from top of article:

As far as longtime sports broadcaster Bob Costas is concerned, the future of football in the United States is clear — and bleak.

“The reality is that this game destroys people’s brains," he said Tuesday night.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion at the University of Maryland, Costas, who hosted Football Night in America on NBC for more than a decade, said the sport could collapse over time, barring a development in technology to make it reasonably safe. He said the decline of football, which was once “a cash machine,” is the most significant story in American sports.

“The cracks in the foundation are there,” Costas said. “The day-to-day issues, as serious as they may be, they may come and go. But you cannot change the nature of the game. I certainly would not let, if I had an athletically gifted 12- or 13-year-old son, I would not let him play football.”

Our society lost it's personal responsibility a good 40 years ago. Do you think it'll really make a comeback in the NFL?

Virtually nobody under 6'5 is playing basketball.

A guy that is 5'10 with non-elite coordination isn't playing baseball. He's a DB.

A guy that is 6'2 +250 doesn't belong on a baseball field. He's a LB

No lineman are playing baseball.

From the QB position, unless you're a runner, your probably less likely to get hurt than pitching, which is where a lot of QBs would otherwise play.

WRs could play, but it takes a different kind of coordination to be able to hit a major league ball.
If you are looking at basic athletic skill sets and specializing at an early age, then:

DBs have elite coordination

Guys that' are 6'2 250 or thereabouts are all over the modern baseball diamond. Mike Trout is 6'2, 240. Kris Bryant is 6'5, 230. Freddie Freeman is 6'5, 220.

Lineman aren't that big if they aren't eating 10,000 calories a day, which is why they all shrink precipitously after leaving the game.

QBs played all over the diamond. Matt Holliday was going to play QB at Oklahoma State and played left field. Chad Hutchison *was* a pro QB and he was a 3B in the minors. Russell Wilson was an OF'er.

Have you seen the size of guys like Judge, Stanton, Miguel Sano? First is loaded with guys that are 6'3-6'5 and around 250.

Baseball players are *massive*, and they're only getting bigger.

Yeah right. Doesn't surprise me that you are naive enough to belief this since you really don't know how the corporate world works. If they(corp heads like you) they allow you to resign, however, if they dislike you, you get fired unless of course you are Matt Lauer. Costas is a big Lefty Progressive pushing his BS politics every chance he got. NBC is clearly a Progressive Lefty Network that admire's Bob's politics I assure you. But because they have the SB this year and the NFL clearly lost a lot of $$ with lower ratings they can't afford Bob's Alinsky antics, so they(NFL) told NBC to 'nix' Bob for the SB and NBC had to concede but because Bob was a good Progressive soldier NBC allowed him to resign.

Get a clue George Costanza !!

You're right about all the other stuff but 6' 210 is like the perfect size for a safety.

Naw, man. Safeties in the NFL today are bigger than that. They just look that small to you because you're watching on your phone.
