What would it take for your fanhood to change.

I debated this a couple times the past season.

I get sick, sometimes, of the Chiefs honestly doing all the important things wrong. Underwhelming free agency classes, poor drafts, frequent coaching and regime changes.

What if I just hopped on the Seahawks wagon? What would that cost me?

Good coaching, great quarterbacking, player acquisitions and good drafts. Good fans, best stadium in the country...

What stands in my way, honestly?

I was born in Kansas City, but spent a good amount of time in Wisconsin during the summers growing up. The first stadium I ever set foot in was Lambeau. Preseason game, but still. And every Christmas, my family up in Green Bay would send me a Packers t-shirt, sweatshirt, flag, whatever to try and convert me. Additionally I lived in Wisconsin for a good part of my twenties.

But no, for some reason my 5 year old self chose to be a Chiefs' fan. Carl and Marty rolled into town with Derrick Thomas and I was hooked. I will admit though, I had a fair amount of expletives aimed at that naive younger self as I sat in a bar in Madison and watched the Packers win their latest title.

My significant other has told me "Well, the Packers really are your team too."

No. No, they're not. I have an affection for the Packers. I like to watch them and I hope they do well. But their Superbowl win wasn't mine. I want mine. And when the Chiefs do finally get one, it will be the greatest single moment of sports fandom because I sat through the crap to see it through. Which makes me loyal, stupid or both.

I could never jump ship. I've invested too much. I could never get emotionally invested in another sports team like I have with the Chiefs...ever.

All other sports and favorite teams, compared to the Chiefs, are pretty much bandwagons for me. If the Royals suck, I lose interest. If the Bulls, Sox and Cubs suck...I don't give a ****.

the Chiefs? If I stuck through 2012 that just means I'm in for life.

Another death in Hunt family. I love that family.

I'd never jump ship, but if they'd have done something insane like extend Matt Cassel, I would be totally apathetic....well, as apathetic as I already was with him behind center I guess.

I've tried to change but it didn't work. Since Christmas Day, 1971, I've followed this team. They kicked me in the gut that day along with many other games since. There was a time when I couldn't sleep the night of a loss but I'm past that. Having depression and anxiety issues the last several years hasn't helped being a fan of this team. Had season tickets back in the late 80's and early 90's, but with children going to college had to give them up. Still try to make one game a year, sometimes on the road. Going to DC this year to see them play the Redskins with my adult son who lives there. I'll be a Chief's fan until the end.

I suspect that as soon as you became a Seahawks fan you would start hating everything they do too. But I recommend you give it a try.

You dun goofed son! What I wouldn't give to go back in time to latch on to the Steelers or Packers. I grew up closest to the Vikings, but ended up liking the Chiefs and will never forget the Indy playoff game around 95 fresh out of HS and setting up my VCR to record each game as I was sure, absolutely 100%, that they were going to crush everyone up to and including whatever team stepped foot in the SB...and then...well you know. The disappointment then and now just never seems to stop, even the Vermeil years were agony as I knew, as much as I wanted to believe the opposite, that they would continue to fail.

Fat Scott truly crushed this entire fan base and franchise, but I much like you, are already hooked and can't let them go.

Mods should change the thread title to "Chief's fan therapy thread".

Couldn't do it. I'm a fan of other players in the league and like to watch them, but not teams.

Last year is the worst that could ever happen and most of the board pushed through. Idk what could really be worse?

+1 for el borracho....although I would say, I have yet to reach disconnection. I watch the games every week. Since 1984/85, I have done that, and this last season was their worst since that time. If I can make it through last season, I can make it through any season. Last time I was excited about this team was 2003, before that, 1997. 10 years, 160 games since I was last really invested in a game or excited about a win. Yeah, I think apathy covers it.

Funnily enough, the suffering of the Vikes fans is about the only solace I can take from that choice. They are one of the only teams in the league that disappoint their fans more than the Chiefs. They have had loaded teams over the years and always manage to F it up. 15-1 year especially and to lose to the Falcons of all the crap teams to lose to in the Playoffs had to be heart wrenching, plus I don't have to wear purple.

It never even enters my mind to jump ship on the Chiefs. I have been a fan since I was a small boy. As I have gotten older and mellower the losses and dissapointment that used to eat at me are nothing more than minor annoyances.

Same with the Royals. I have so many fond memories of sitting in the cheap seats its hard to give up on them, even though they have perennially sucked.

I will say that the Chiefs suckage has made it easier to avoid spending the money on a trip back to KC once or twice a year to watch a game.

I think how emotionally detached from the team I currently am is a low point, already.

It can only go up from here.
