Game of Thrones *Spoiler* Thread

There's been some recent confusion with the old spoiler thread, so I'm kicking off a new one for tonight's premiere. This is going to be the one for folks who've read all the books. So anything anybody might want to talk about is in bounds. Suffice to say, if you haven't read the books, you'll probably want to stay out of here until you do...

I'll bump the old spoiler-free thread shortly in case anybody's interested. For future reference the link to that one is here

Based on the previews, it looks like we are getting into the wedding for sure. But it is tough to say if we will get all the way through the reception or just the beginning of it.

Didn't the priest/religious guy with no axe to grind say he was there when the Hound died?

That was defintley that scene where the Hound gets his soon to be fatal injury. Looks to be a departure from the books due to the chemistry of the two. Bet its Bonn training Jamie too because of the actor. We may not see the complete break of Bronn from Tywin either.

Anyone else think they have kinda pussified Arya? She didn't kill anyone at the castle when they escaped like she did in the book. And I thought she was a much more active player in the fight in the tavern with the Hound. I know in the book it was the Tickler and not this other guy but I thought they were all fighting the Hound not paying any attention to her and she killed a couple of them mid battle. Not standing in a corner till they are all half dead and then kill them. Maybe I remember it wrong.

The theory is that he was speaking metaphorically, that he was speaking of the persona of "the hound", and that the gravedigger that Brienne saw was actually Sandor Clegane.

But who knows. Whatever the case, he didn't die onscreen...

Woah. I knew it was big, what with hbogo crashing, but damn...

'Game of Thrones' gets record ratings: Biggest audience since 'Sopranos' finale

All hail HBO’s Game of Thrones. The fourth-season premiere of the fantasy delivered the show’s biggest audience yet: 6.6 million viewers. That makes Sunday’s Thrones HBO’s most-watched program since The Sopranos’ series finale in 2007. Two replays of the Thrones episode drove the show’s full-night tally up to 8.2 million viewers.

By comparison, season 3 opened to 4.4 million viewers and eventually peaked at 5.5 million for the sixth episode (no, the Red Wedding was not a record high, and nor was the finale, which delivered 5.4 million).

Last season Thrones averaged 14.4 million viewers per episode, second only to The Sopranos as HBO’s most-watched series. This year, Thrones might very well overtake the classic mob drama to claim the premium cable network’s all-time crown, especially given its history of growing its audience as a season progresses.

Online viewership was also immense as HBO Go, the pay cabler’s streaming service, crashed during the premiere with many receiving a “fatal error” message, which HBO attributed to “overwhelming demand.”

They know that he had named his horse "Stranger" and comment on it being blasphemous.

Is that something a delirious, fevered, dying man would talk about on his deathbed? I don't know about that...

Really think there's a good chance we see The Hound as the Champion of the Faith and Strong as the Champion for Cersei.

I think the Hound is alive with the church on the silent isle. I was convinced by a short essay on it from the Tower of the Hand site. It's hard to read this essay and not believe the hound is still alive:

http://towerofthehand.com/blog/2010/...he_/index.html

I am hoping the Hound will fight for the church against his zombie headless brother in Cersei's trial by battle. That would be badass!

To absolutely nobody's surprise, it's been renewed for two more years (seasons 5 and 6).

Yes, and the brother who found him and tells Brienne "the Hound is dead" also tells Brienne a story about how he himself died in the battle of the trident when Rhaegar was killed by Robert, and he started his new life as a brother. So he clearly can think of death as metaphorical, and that's why he wasn't lying when he said the "Hound" is dead, even though he did not mean that Sandor Clegane is dead.

Further evidence is that in that same chapter Brienne also sees a very large man who is a new recruit for their order and has his face covered, but walks with a limp (hound was cut in his leg and almost died from it), and happens to pet a dog as Brienne is passing him. She doesn't put it together that it is Sandor, but he is surely still alive.

Yep. That essay I linked above provides all the relevant direct quotes from the books, it's a good read on the fate of the Hound... and on the fate of his brother the Mountain.
