Only thing I can fault Ned much in this game is using Chen, really at all. But thats partly on Dayton. No clue why Chen is on thi roster. Virtually any other pitcher than Chen would have been great.

because that just wouldn't ****ing happen his arm may go out if we throw him for 130 innings every ****ing year but in August and September if we need him for 2 innings instead of 1 in a ****ing pennant race I think the mother ****er would gladly suck it up |

As far as the Ventura thing, I agree with you. And IF the Royals do make the playoffs, I would suspect that is exactly what will happen. 4 man rotation with JGuts at the back end, if needed, and Ventura moving to middle relief to be a dominant 1-2 inning guy that can get the game to Herrera, Davis and Holly. |

I can't wait until Ned uses a 5 man rotation in the playoffs (if we get there)

I think he would too, but that's not the point. You don't leave those kinds of decisions up to pitchers. Many of the best pitch with their heart and not their head and don't EVER want to be taken out. Hell, I have no doubt James Shields would throw a 130 pitch complete game almost every time out if Ned would let him, but that would be stupid obviously. Duffy didn't want to come out two nights ago, and was pissed about it, but if Ned left him in we probably don't walk off in the 9th on Gordo's HR. And I'm sure Holly would be willing to throw 1-2 innings most times out, if Ned would let him . . . . but that doesn't mean he should or that it would be in his best interest or that of the team. There's a reason the Royals have the best 7-8-9 combo in baseball . . . . because they are set up to each pitch the 7th, 8th and 9th. If you stretch them out, they lose their dominance in those roles, at best, and at worst, lose their effectiveness going forward. You don't gamble that on one f**king game against the Mini-twins in August, in a series you've already won, while still in first place, and still having 6 more games head to head in September against the team that is chasing you! You have to think big picture here, not just one game. Anything other than just that WOULD be, as you state, COMPLETELY F**KING STUPID!!! |

Did anyone set the over/under on Hootie blowing a gasket within weeks of coming back? In a meaningless (yes this game is meaningless) loss? Goood god people, you win some, you lose some. They play 162 for a reason.

And let's be real here: the Royals won games the previous two nights they probably had no business winning (based on the pathetic offensive display on Tuesday night and Phil Hughes pitching on Wednesday), and lost a game tonight they probably should have won.
So they traded one for two. That's a .667 winning %. I'll take that trade every time, as would the Royals going forward. |

Man. I'm not going to freak out about tonight, but that move absolutely stunned me.
If managers truly don't really matter as far as x's and o's go until the games really start to matter (close to, and in September) then Ned is completely to blame for this loss. Wade Davis had thrown only 24 pitches in his last 2 appearances and was nowhere near spent. He could have easily gotten us into the 11th. Instead, we opt for a soft-tossing shit bag that is Bruce Chen and give up 6 ****ing runs in the 10th, sealing the deal. Just a terrible move strategically, and one that could cost us down the stretch.

And I'm 100% in agreement with Hootie on this one. Anyone saying that the decision to put Chen in under those circumstances didn't cost us the game is just being an apologist.
