The Motorcycle Discussion Thread

I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.

Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16)

Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you:

Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere
Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel)
C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel

Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too.
http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75

My Wife hates the interstate, it scares here. One night at about 10 PM we had to ride home and I insisted we take the big slab. She was pissed until I explained to her I wanted a car in front of me acting like a deer plow to clear the road. Doesn't solve the deer equation but helps

No windshield but indeed overdue.
I imagine we are all out getting our miles in.
I myself just got back from a two day Flyfish/Moto tour in Northeast Iowa.
Road a gravel road I hadn't taken before by the Southern Border of Minnesota called the "Roller Coaster". And yes, it was like a roller coaster.

Been riding most of the summer, thought due to schedules and weather, I didn't ride hardly at all in July.

Got back last Sunday from Bike Blues and BBQ IN Fayetteville, AR. Did about 1500 miles, and found a great route to take, that takes you east of the rally, and you can avoid a bunch of the congestion. We rolled for a good hour and didn't even see another car or bike. I'll try to remember to post it last if I get a chance. Definitely doing it agin. It's a longer ride down there, about 8 hours /360miles or so. But 360 miles down there is an all day deal, given roads, speed limits etc.

Washed, polished and waxed the bike yesterday. It was absolutely filthy..

I love it. Been the last five years. We don't spent too much time at the actual rally in Dickson street, maybe two or three hours. The roads down there are solid reason enough to go down there. I'd rather ride those roads than cruise up and down the main drag and see the same douchey people over and over again. It's fun thoug, don't get me wrong, just a little goes a long way.

The roads are worth it. Miles and miles and miles of good pavement, curves. The route we took, had miles of road with little to no side streets off the road we're riding. So you can just focus and enjoy the ride.

Eureka Springs we usually hit the HD dealer to grab a shirt and the Cathouse Saloon for a cold one or two. Beaver lake / dam.

Devils Den park is fun.

War Eagle Mill.

Pig Trail scenic hwy.

If you like riding, you'll love it. I've been down there lots of times so hit me up with any questions, locations, where to stay, where not to stay etc.

Kicking around the idea of getting a Ducati Monster , likely the 1200S.
I really love my street glide, but I think I want something with better performance.

Not in the terms of just pinning the throttle/acceleration etc. more along the lines of handling, suspension, and maybe most importantly braking. The braking of my 800+lb bike + my ass, leaves a lot to be desired. It’s awesome for chewing up miles, but evasive moves, hard ‘ass saving’ braking or grip/lean.......it can get sketchy. Though I tore up the roads in Arkansas with no problem, aside from grinding down my bags lol.

The Duc has ABS, traction control (various impelement levels), wheelie control (again varying implements), ride modes (urban, touring, and sport) that changes power delivery on the fly, and I “think” maybe even a yaw sensor that aids in traction and ABS while leaned over. I know the Aprilia Tuono has it, but not 100% in the Duc. The Tuono is awesome, but might be a little steep for me $ wise unless I find a good deal. And honestly, owning a Duc is on my bucket list.

Dunno. Love Harley’s, but I think im ready to ride with the latest tech and performance. The ride modes seem great. Urban I think tunes the HP output to like 100hp, and touring gives access to all 145hp but power delivered more smoothly. Sport mode is full 145hp and you have access to it as you would on a track. It’s half the weight of my SG right out of the gate, and has beefy brakes and ABS. Suspension is fully adjustable and Ohlins.

I’m a fan of twins and the torque /linear power delivery to begin with, and I’m not so much interested in big HP...I want good torque all over for my style of riding which is curves and not so much just blasting top speed. Going fast is fun, but I’ve been there done that, and don’t feel like going to jail.

Maintenance intervals (with regard to valve checks and/or adjustments) are now an impressive (for a Desmo actuated valve train) 18k Miles.....considering 20 yrs ago I think this interval was like 5kor 7500miles...something like that.

I also like the Duc 848 street fighter, but have a feeling ill fit on the Monster a lot better.

Dunno. Just getting that itch in my gut to get back onto something more confident. Probably would be spring at the earliest I imagine, unless I lose my mind and end up doing a deal right as the riding season is about done for a few months. Lol.

Anyone ever owned a Duc? I’ve ridden several on short jaunts but never owned one.

I am thinking about it..a buddy of mine has one and I rode it for about a week and it is amazing..

BMW GS 1200.. you should look into them..lots of great features and it’s dual sport so it can do on or off road..they make 125 hp if I remember right..different riding modes different suspension setting that you can control from the handle bars.very cool bikes

But I have looked at used ones built within the past few years and you can get a pretty loaded up one for $15,000 with under 20,000 miles

Wow I read up on it last night. That’s a badass bike.
Like having three bikes in one.

Five ride modes that adjust engine tuning/power output, dynamic suspension, can manually select suspension , cruise. All on the fly. ABS. 125hp and 92# of torque, and it weighs about 220lbs less than my street glide. Fuel tank is something crazy like 7gallons.

Wow. It would be a big departure for me as a Harley and sport bike guy, but I’m at the point where I want to ride, and want to be able to utilize the tech that is out there. If that means a dual sport, so be it.

I love my Harley, but it’s heavy, doesn’t inspire confidence in braking, I’m constantly draggging parts, suspension is pretty average at best.
