Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

Sorry for the quadruple post, but do any of you use Casein powder?

What benefit does it have over Whey and do you drink it at certain times of the day?

This thread makes it sound like it has no benefit over whey.

Casein is far better than whey, and it's really not even close. It's better absorbed. Basically, you should use casein any time that speed of digestion isn't an issue. Use whey around a workout, or when you are going to be working out soon. If not, use casein.

Just FWIW, the comments in the thread are right that you won't go crazy catabolic overnight and lose your gains if you used whey. It's just that casein, by nature of it being digested more slowly, is more efficiently absorbed and better utilized by the body. There are a few studies backing this up, and I'll dig them up if you want me to.

So it would be a good idea to take whey protein right after a workout and casein right before bed? I've generally just gone with whey after the workout but I'm at Vitamin Shoppe now contemplating picking up some casein. They have a buy one get one 50 % special..
