Stephen King's next...

This seems odd. Which for King is saying something.
Quote:
11/22/63

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas,
President Kennedy died, and the world changed.

If you had the chance to change history, would you?
Would the consequences be worth it?

Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.

Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life—a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.

I don't mind the size and length of King's books. In fact I like long books, but the man just can't seem to stick the landing, for whatever reason. I can't think of a single King novel where I haven't felt let down in the end, and that includes The Stand, which is one of my overall favorite reads. Maybe Salem's Lot, although it's been a few years since I read it. But in general, the endings seem to wither and die.

I've long been someone who has agreed with King about outlining (i.e. don't need it) but I'm starting to wonder if maybe that's not the issue. In the end.
i was with you, til you lost me in that last part

First episode was good. Quite a bit of deviation from the book so far but still I liked it.

I was quite happy with the first ep. Surprised at its length as well.

I think it'll be very good.

They ****ed it up. Could have made a far more interesting and long story.

The entire first season should have been about righting the wrong done to Harry, with the finale being killing his first big baddy in Harry's dad.

Second season takes you into Dallas and leads up to the attempt on General Walker, which then can propel you into the third season, where you now know Oswald acted alone and he sets off to stop him.

Three seasons and out. But they made a much shorter show. Still, I'm pissed. I would have loved the chance to adapt this.

No way they'd stretch the book into three whole seasons, it wouldn't last.

just saw first one
thought it was very cool the striking difference between Al before he went in the back and when he came back out front after Jakes wife had left. looked great...hair perfect in a striped shirt....two minutes later he's got on totally different clothes hairs a mess and looks like SHIT.

I'd forgotten a lot about the story....it's coming back.

and not to be a spoil sport....but the hell with living back then for 3 years just waiting....you send and anonymous letter...maybe 50 of the...to the white house warning of the exact time and place of the JFK incident.....you make a few choice bets...and you go home....take your winnings with you.... see if the notes worked.
guess that's be a pretty short mini series though huh?

well...especially if your bet book didn't get destroyed. and if you don't jack around with the Kennedy thing...you're set!

I thought the book....and now...at least to this point the series...failed to address and obvious thing.

you could take back loot and be super rich. granted it couldn't be MONEY...but you could take gold/silver...you know...maybe old coins.....

Or just go straight to the track and win big...go back home...rinse and repeat until you've got enough 1960 money to be rich.

now...figure out what it takes to save Kennedy...if that's what you wanna do. once you've gone back home and verified that this has been successful...take your loot...go back...save Kennedy...and stay there.

basically the important thing to me...is to be RICH!

I disagree. Sitting through 3 entire seasons based upon a single book sounds like torture. It would cause me to die of boredom.
