He's the one who cost the Bengals that game against the Steelers that changed the Chief's playoff destiny.
https://www.sbnation.com/2016/1/9/10...-steelers-game

One minute the Chiefs thought they would be going to Denver? and then after those horrendous penalties they find out they're going to play the Texans. Please correct me if I'm wrong (and I usually am.)

It is not about just this hit. It is about his history along with still breaking unnecessary roughness rules. He is a repeat offender that does not learn from his mistakes.

I can understand the rule of hitting a man while he's not looking and has no connection to the play, but five games is way too harsh. I know it's a new rule that they're trying to enforce more harshly but if the roles were reversed and that was one of our guys, I would expect a fine and at worst a one game suspension. Even with a history of hitting I would expect max two to three games, but almost a third of the season is a little extreme.

The players and players union do all they can to reduce injuries by forcing the league to eliminating padded practice and reducing practice time period.

Then first teamers go out and try to decapitate each other in a preseason game. It's not like he's a fringe player trying to make the team. I don't give a shit if they suspend him or not, but man what a moron.

I think 3 games would be reasonable, but this Bengals PR drive today may make that kind of success on appeal less likely.

Maybe 4 games after appeal. Burfict is claiming to have done nothing wrong even though the play has been deemed illegal by the league.

Bengals' factual claims are weak about players in front of each other and whatever.

Bengals seem to be arguing that it was a technically "legal" malicious hit. Sorry, ball was in the air and Burfict was not playing the ball. You can only knock down potential receivers within 5 yds of LOS if ball is in QBs hand.

He commits several penalties worthy of suspension. Chucking a receiver inside 5 yards (legal) isn't even close to one of them... but I'll point you in the right direction...

Personal Foul - Unnecessary Roughness
Lead with his helmet.
See Rule 12 Section 2 Article 6 i.

Personal Fouls - Player in Defenseless Position
Created unnecessary contact with a receiver from behind, Forcibly hitting the players head or neck area, and illegally launching (leaving feet) into an opponent.
See rule 12 Section 2 Article 7 a 2, b 1 and b 3.

Depending on the situation it could be Defensive Pass Interference or Unsportsmanlike Conduct, off the top of my head. It's a cheap shot, but it's not really what I would call "dirty" unless I was screwing with you.

It's also not going to be called a personal foul when it's an arm push. Burfict's hit wasn't hard per se, but it was pretty high and with a shoulder.

Here's a good video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhpzWFsjRsg

Won't let me embed. Burfict lowers his head and launches himself at the player.

*Upon Edit: In the DEN/KC video if that happened after an incomplete pass and the play was dead then I could see them calling it Unsportsmanlike Conduct.
