SceneItAll Tournament: Round 1, Heat 98

The rules:

In Round 1, I'm going to put up three randomly selected scenes from the nomination thread.

You'll vote for your ONE favorite scene among the three. The key here is FAVORITE. We're not talking about the 'best' or 'most powerful' or 'most meaningful'. We're talking about the scene that you most enjoy watching, however you define that.

The winners will move on. I'll also take the 10 highest-scoring second-place scenes and they'll advance as wild cards.

Some of our nominations did not include clips. This will be noted. If you find a clip, please post it and let me know so I can update it if it moves on.

Oh, man. We have three entertainment and comedic blockbusters in this heat. All are quite worthy.

My votes:

#1 - Pulp Fiction. I know, Pulp Fiction again. But I am grinning throughout this whole scene. It's fun, it's funny, and you have to like the concept of a hitman and mob wife in a dance contest to Chuck Berry in a 1950s diner.

#2 - The Avengers. These scene really cracks me up. It's hilarious. You gotta love the hulk.

#3 - There's Something About Mary. It's unfair that this scene has to be in this heat. It's hilarious, particularly at the beginning when he's trying to figure out what happened to the, um, hair gel. Top-notch all the way around.

Avengers all the way. Any superhero fight scene is good enough for me.

I think it's a pretty hohum round actually. Ok scenes in good movies, but probably not the best scene in any of them, IMO.

Agreed on PF and TSAM, but that Hulk/Loki scene was a standout for that movie.

I actually think Pulp Fiction is the weakest. If you would have added all the dialogue from that scene starting when they entered the diner, then it would have been great. Would have been way too long though. As it stands, I've never cared for that part of the diner scene. Didn't understand why we had to watch them dance for so long. It wasn't entertaining at all.

I like the TSAM scene a lot....but I'm voting for The Avengers scene. I don't usually like super hero movies, so the fact that I found this scene funny and enjoyable really says something.

One of the things about the Pulp Fiction scene is that when PF came out it was kind of a 'comeback' for Travolta. He of course was famous for a couple of dancing roles (Grease, Sat Night Fever) so seeing him back dancing I thought was kind of a wink to those other roles. If it wasn't, there was still a little added humor seeing him back on the dance floor.

I'm so sick of Pulp Fiction I could puke, it gets more than enough play in every round.

I love the subversive goofiness of TSAM, such a great all around movie besides this scene... Hulk smash Loki? yes, it was freakin awesome... but don't comic book flics get enough love?

I'm going for the hilariously irreverent romantic comedy, one of the best ever, the second best movie from the Farrelly bro's... and that's nothing to sneeze at.

I assume Baby Lee knows this, but is this common knowledge that I somehow missed?--

Michael Madsen's Mr. Blonde from Reservoir Dogs "real" name is Vic Vega. Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction is Vic's brother.

Tarantino wanted Madsen to play Vic in Pulp Fiction (so I guess PF would have been a prequel to RD?) but he was signed to something else, so Tarantino wrote it as Vic's brother Vincent, and Travolta got the part.

I did not know that.

Yeah, and Tarantino wanted to make a Vega brothers movie as well, but Madsen and Travolta were never available at the same time. Then they got older, so a prequel was out, and follow-up wouldn't work since both were dead.

Yea...There was a lot of tie ins between his movies in those days. During Reservoir Dogs when one of them walks into the bosses office, the boss asks about how Alabama is doing and what she was up to....Alabama was the lead female in True Romance.
