Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

This is a classic and very dramatic example of the Principle Of Happenstance, Mr. CaliforniaChief.

Throughout our lives, small and seemingly insignificant changes in occurrences or actions alter everything that follows. I think that's why God invented time ... so we wouldn't go crazy considering all the possible permutations and various potential outcomes. Because time is linear, we can't go back and change anything. What's more, because we're stuck in the "present", we never know what "might" have happened because of, or due to, the absence or existence of certain, particular events. Good thinking on God's part there.

Still, the mere thought makes you want to use quantum tunneling to visit some of the alternate universes and see what "might have been" in this one. Turn left, and you marry a rich, beautiful blond. Turn right, and you fall in a deep, nasty hole filled with crack hos. That's why I always turn left.

Things like this leave multiple crossroads to be examined, no doubt.

The counselor, their friends, family members, teammates, team administration, coaches, the police, etc...all are left asking "what if?"

Perhaps. I will say that your point is why I always get pissed when people say "well if this didn't happen then this woulda happened". For example, team gets 3 points instead of 7. Next drive other team gets 3. Person says well if we had scored a TD we would be leading by 4 right now. How can you say that? Who knows how that second drive turns out if you had scored a TD instead of a field goal. Hell, who knows how that 2nd drive turns out if there is a clock malfunction and the drive starts a minute later than it originally would have.

11:18PM EST December 8. 2012 - At least a dozen members of the Kansas City Chiefs organization flew to Austin Saturday morning to attend a memorial service for Kasandra Perkins, the 22-year-old woman killed by Jovan Belcher, her Chiefs linebacker boyfriend, a week ago.

The Chiefs' contingent included at least 10 players, as well as team CEO Clark Hunt and general manager Scott Pioli. That group flew together from Austin to join the rest of the team in Cleveland Saturday evening. The Chiefs play the Browns on Sunday.

Linebacker Derrick Johnson and running back Jamaal Charles were among the players who attended the memorial service, the second such service for Perkins this week. Charles' wife, Whitney, was Perkins' first cousin, and Johnson's wife, Tamika, was a close friend.

The entire Chiefs team attended a service for Belcher in Kansas City earlier in the week, and some players may attend a later service in Long Island, N.Y. if their schedule permits.

But even after the burials are complete, players know they won't be done dealing with what happened a week ago, when Belcher fatally shot Perkins in their home and then killed himself in the parking lot of the team facility. Belcher's action left the couple's infant daughter, Zoey, an orphan.

"This isn't going to be just this season," Johnson told USA TODAY Sports on Friday. "This is going to linger. He is going to be missed, and Kasi is going to be missed for a long time."
