Last night my lovely wifey and I went to Starlight on Groupon Tickets to see Joe Walsh and Bad Company for $15/ticket. We were in the next to the last row, but we were in the shade and a nice breeze was blowing all night, so where most of the crowd was sweltering, we were doing pretty good. Ten Observations: 1) Joe Walsh opened to a full house. He said "Good Morning, nice to be here on the surface of the sun..." It was about 93 degrees and humid at 7:30pm. 2) Walsh went off on about a 20 minute weird instrumental tangent, playing "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" from an old James Gang album. Seemed like a bit of a waste of valuable concert time. 3) Best Walsh song was a tribute to Glenn Frey, doing "Take It To the Limit." Beautiful rendition and the video montages behind the band on the big screen were all good; creative and well done. 4) Bad Company got on stage about 9:30 and only played for about 80 minutes. My biggest pet peeve about concerts: I didn't pay to listen to 2,000 truck drivers and construction workers from Johnson County sing the chorus of every song to me. I paid to hear Paul Rodgers do that. Hey band, do your songs, don't have the audience sing 50% of your catalog. Sorry, that bugs me. 5) Instead of people holding up lighters like in the old days, they now hold up their cellphones and shoot pictures or video. All these little glowing phone screens all over. 6) Crowd looked like a giant Cialis commercial. Lots of fat, grey haired dudes (including me) wearing old Eagles T-shirts and their Old Ladies showing off their 25 year old tramp stamps. I however, did not show off my tramp stamp. 7) Apparently Bad Company songs make old women super horny. Good to know. 8) The guy sitting next to me was a farmer from up around St. Joe. The guy sitting in front of me was a farmer from South of Olathe. Guess farmers dig Joe Walsh. 9) Bad Company must have used about $5000 worth of dry ice creating smoke effects from the drum riser. KC was already under a smog alert.... 10) Waddy Watchtel was a sideman for Joe Walsh. Is there a band he hasn't played with? All in all, a good time, but a nice cool shower felt wonderful when I got home. I don't do well in 90 degree heat and high humidity any more. I gets sweaty.

When someone says they are going to see Joe Walsh and Bad Company, I just assume that Joe Walsh is the headliner. Goes to show what I know.

How old are these guys now? They can probably barely sing the chorus anymore.

Glad you had a good time : )

Paul Rodgers continues to be an amazing singer, with perfect pitch and timing.
